Ok i'm not the biggest of cricket fan's but having seen some of the test matches between England and India, clearly India were less than competitive for whatever reason, don't know whether the players are in cloud cuckoo land & not performing like a world no1 team or whether they are peeved with the management & board...either way they have let the Indian fans down big style...

The Indian batting is overrated because Indian wickets are low and slow. Against a good English bowling attack only Dravid looks capable, Tendulkar is out of form - the others aren't up to it.
Forget about a one-off series, yes India can do better but then that is not hard - this wasn't a beating it was a massacre.

That 5-0 ashes defeat was down to a number of things:
Wrong captain/poor leadership
Poor preparation
Over confidence
Underestimating the opposition.
England looked long and hard at the systems they had in place, and made changes, changes which have borne the success they now enjoy.
Whether India do the same, as those circumstances pretty much mirror the series we have just seen, remains to be seen.
Sadly for Indian cricket, I don't believe the BCCI want to upset their (sacred) cash cow. Too many people making too much money for them to want to put tests over the IPL.

Yes I agree HM,
England and Australia have a culture of looking long and hard at their setups and players after a poor performance - in sports like cricket and rugby, etc... and then making some hard decisions.
Whilst these may not provide immediate results; by sticking to a comprehensive medium-long term plan they have a better chance of turning around a dip in form and reaching new new heights.
I always had the feeling the rise of India in the last 3 years in particular was due to the workings of a few legendary players (who lifted the other team members) and were therefore able to perform more consistently compared to other teams in transition. Yet as we saw with Australia - there were critical shortcomings when it came to replacing injured or retiring players.
I wonder whether India can somehow make a comeback when they play us later this year. In the months leading up to the Test Series - Australia will have had a decent headstart in the team rebuilding process having played Sri Lanka, SA and NZ. If they come out those matches with some victories - India will definitely be facing an uphill battle to stop their slide down the rankings.

line,
Where are India going to find a bowling attack to take to Australia? The cupboard seems completely bare.

Yes hopefor. I must admit I don't know too much about their depth. Don't know whether some of the IPL/Ranji Trophy players can step up to Test level. I hope not.
Meanwhile, we need to keep developing our young bowlers to attack their dwindling strength - the batting. Who knows... there may even be an announcement from Laxman, Dravid or the Little Master himself before the December Series?

It will be a major surprise if India win in Australia. All the talk here has been that their batsmen have been undone by the swinging ball but most of their batsmen have struggled with the short delivery rising up to throat level.
I'm sure the Oz pace men will have taken note.

England got beaten 5-0 in the ashes..but the same questions were not asked"
The same questions WERE asked.
People questioned the sanity of central contracts, people questioned the captaincy and attitude of the team, people questioned the preparation and county cricket overall. etc, etc.
BUT........Jonathan Agnew said: "If attention is paid to this thrashing, then something good will come from it "
And that was England's strength: they immediately looked at the problems and fixed them

The thing is guys the so-called 'experts' look as though they are putting the blame on the IPL series & all the bucks that go with it, now i for one don't believe its only that, i mean come on these guys are pro's & should be able to handle the demands of the sport which they are in & looking at things you can't begrudge England the no. 1 spot in test cricket the record speaks for itself, don't get me wrong i like England & support them whenever they're not playing India, but i just can't believe that India would fall so far from grace...and i don't believe that pitches are to blame...they did alright in Australia!!

Thanks for your part time support.
As for whats wrong? England are superior in all forms batting bowling and fielding. If India stick with the same players in the next series against England.. The players will be even older and slower in the field.
India have major problems at the test level now in my opinion..
