In today's BBC football gossip column:
Gerrard: Inter Milan are going to try and get him in January.
I would really like SG to stay and become a coach here and eventually become the manager. After a stellar career with us, I would respect his decision should he wish to move on. The speculation is actually from Inter's side, so I wouldn't put much credibility in such speculation.
Rodgers: The Liverpool board are considering sacking BR.
I believe the club now does it's business in private and so I don't believe this piece of news.

"Never get why fans have this assumption that top players will make top worthwhile managers."
agreed, most top managers were mediocre or poor players
"Gerrard doesn't have the tactical intelligence in his play to become a top manager."
you just made that up based on absolutely nothing

I'm only basing it on personal opinion. I don't consider him a tactically astute or disciplined footballer. I also don't get the impression that he's a very intelligent human being. A good leader on the pitch no doubt - primarily based on his ability to lead by example earlier in his career. Is he someone who could tactically out think some of the games top managers? I seriously doubt it.

Fergie proved you can be tactically average and still win. Having control/respect/fear of the side is far more important.
You can hire tactical coaches.
But, I still don't think you can find out Gerrard's ability to understand / implement tactics until he actually manages a side. There isn't anything to glean from watching his playing career. Two completely different jobs.

Your opening paragraph would make for a decent 1000 comment article/argument

Sack rodgers? Why? I dont see a reason too UNLESS we expected to WIN the prem THIS season. We all know from last season that we progressed at a faster rate than normal, if anything BR is well ahead of schedule.
Top four consolidation and a cup win with quaters or further in cl is fine for where we are.

Gerrard after a new contract. Agent leaks some made up Inter interest. Oldest trick in the book.

I do actually agree with this. I always thought it would be Carra who would become a manager but he's avoided it like the plague so far. You just never quite know but of you look back over our history the only top player who was a good manager for us was King Kenny, and even he had a bad time of it along the line.

As mentioned above, Guardiola aside I can't name many top top managers who were also top top players in the last few years.
Mourinho, Rodgers, Wenger, Van Gaal, Pelligrini, Fergie etc were never top footballers.
Although I'm not claiming to have the same level of knowledge as others on here!

The Italian managers seem to have had decent careers as players. Ancelotti, Mancini..
