The 18th edition of Tyke’s Fifa Tournaments, the Turkish Tournament has now concluded. Here is the review I hope you enjoy it.
So in this tournament of two five team groups we start off in Group A. In this group was Marky, Sideshow, replacement Monica, Wilshere and Trebs. Marky would be the one to take the mantle in this group showing that he can play fifa after all by accumulating 10 points and topping the group. He beat everybody including a 6 – 2 victory over Trebs, his only dropped points came in a 2 – 2 draw with Sideshow. Marky wasn’t the only one to beat Trebs by a wide margin, picking up zero points his closest match came ironically against Wilshere who had the group’s best team in the shape of Fenerbache, Trebs losing 2 – 1. Subsequent losses included a 4 – 1 v Monica and a 3 – 0 v Sideshow and as predicted he finished with the wooden spoon.
So we had Monica, Sideshow and Wilshere fighting it out for that all important second spot, however Wilshere could not collect that important three points from either of his rivals a 3 – 3 draw with Sideshow and a 4 -0 loss to Monica meant Wilshere with Fenerbache finished 4th and was out. Don’t know much about this game but a draw would’ve put Monica through in second ahead of Sideshow but it appears Sideshow’s solitary goal to win their match 1 – 0 was enough to get him second place and through to the semi-finals. Sideshow always finds a way!
Moving on to Group B now which consisted of Kent, Tyke, replacement JAG,newcomer Scholes and Santi. Very much a contrast between top and bottom here, Kent continued his exemplary group record and beat everybody. He smashed JAG 5 – 1, edged passed Tyke and Santi 3 – 2 and 2 – 1 respectively and also beat Scholes 3 – 1. That wrapped up a nice top spot for him and progression. This group though was always going to be about the chasing pack and the first one to fall was Santi. He suffered two close 3 – 2 reversals against JAG and Scholes, but completely lost it against Tyke who beat him 4 -0. Really didn’t expect a player of his calibre to have a tournament like that.
JAG’s last min winner v Tyke a scrappy 1 – 0 win saw him take a grip on second place in the group and he could’ve sealed it with victory over Scholes. He blew a 2 – 0 lead and ended up drawing with Scholes 2 – 2 meaning he had to rely on results elsewhere, yes he had to hope the eliminated Tyke would prevent Scholes with his superior Bestikas from winning and playing a semi-final against his nephew or some kind of relation Marky. It was a close encounter and Scholes was reduced to half-chances, but the turning point came in the 80th min when Scholes lost a player. Tyke seized the day and got a goal from a corner in the 87th min and a very last min goal when he had to push forward to make it 2 – 0. Pretty sickening way for Scholes to go out, but it was to be JAG who took second and the semi-final v Marky.

So the first semi-final and guess who it involves! Yes Kent and Sideshow with Galatasary and Balikesirspor respectively. As has been the case with these two recently the victor turns out to be Kent and whilst a 4 – 1 score line looks a pretty handsome win for Kent. Both players claimed it was closer than that so I’ll just have to take their word for it! Expect to see more battles from these two in the future; Sideshow must be desperate to beat him. Kent reaches his 8th final.
The second semi-final was always bound to be more intriguing as Marky in his first ever knock-out game and his team Caykur Rizespor took on JAG who has been here a few times before and his Genclerbirligi. This didn’t turn out to be as close as I thought it would be in some respects as JAG did take a 2 – 0 lead. However somewhere along the lines Marky was reduced to not 10, but 9 men. However he shown a brilliant spirit and managed to get it to 2 – 1, before JAG ran away with it and it eventually finished 4 – 2. So a decent tournament for Marky, he’s set himself up now to do even better at these tournaments. JAG who was merely a replacement has found himself in his second final!
Once again it an all Menshevik final with Kent the favourite squaring off against JAG, now their first match in the group stage finished 5 – 1 to Kent, would this final be as one-sided? Well I watched this in its entirety and JAG struck early on in the first half to take a shock lead, but as Kent always seems to do he struck straight back with a trademark charge into the box. This followed by some pretty last-ditch defending by JAG and it had to be, but although this theme continued and JAG really grew into the game, a shock result was plausible. However right at the end JAG was one on one with the GK, but instead of rounding him JAG took the shot which only went out for a corner, golden chance missed. Like all true champions Kent found a way and in the very last kick of the game once again got into JAG’s box and scored the winner, a pretty sickening blow for JAG who did very well. Kent retains his title for the first time!
So it went as expected in the end, Kent won. Quick stat for you people here, Kent has now won 15 games in a row, yes 15! So very well done to him, can anybody stop this domination? Is anybody out there good enough? Well the next league is the Allsvenskan the Swedish League! See you there on Sunday December 14th 7PM.
