Best and Worst Transfers of 2014/15

Nearly half way so it’s fair enough to compile a top 10 list of the best and worst transfers of this season, so far. These are not including any loan deals.

Best Transfers
1. Graziano Pelle, Feyenoord to Southampton, £8m
2. Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona to Chelsea, £27m
3. Alexis Sanchez, Barcelona to Arsenal, £30m
4. Dusan Tadic, FC Twente to Southampton, £10.9m
5. Diego Costa, Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, £32m
6. Ayoze Perez, Tenerife to Newcastle United, £1.5m
7. Diafra Sahko, FC Metz to West Ham United, £4.5m
8. Enner Valencia, Pachuca to West Ham United, £12m
9. Jefferson Montero, Monarchs Morelia to Swansea City, £4m
10. Angel Di Maria, Real Madrid to Manchester United, £59.7m

Worst Transfer
1. Mario Balotelli, AC Milan to Liverpool, £16m
2. Dejan Lovren, Southampton to Liverpool, £20m
3. Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea to Everton, £28m
4. Eliaquim Mangala, Porto to Manchester City, £32m
5. Ander Herrera, Athletic Bilbao to Manchester United, £28.8m
6. Lazar Markovic, Benfica to Liverpool, £20m
7. Federico Fazio, Sevilla to Tottenham Hotspur, £8m
8. Fernando, Porto to Manchester City, £12m
9. Emmanuel Riviere, Monaco to Newcastle United, £6.3m
10. Marcos Rojo, Sporting Lisbon, £16m

Now if your clubs player is in either list, don’t get your knickers in a twist. There’s plenty of time for them to show their true colours. Pelle has done very well, but so did Michu a few seasons ago. Di Maria is tenth because of the hefty price tag, though he is absolute top class. Chelsea have done the best business in the summer. Business that has won them the league. West Ham have done very well too. Very happy with Alexis Sanchez coming in.

On the worst buys, I don’t think many will disagree with Balotelli, simply because he’s least likely to prove me wrong. Lovren has had a poor start, but I do rate him and expect him to improve. Overall I do think Liverpool have done the worst business over the summer, but again plenty of time to prove everyone wrong. Man City haven’t done much better, spending massively on some very average players.

For Arsenal, I think we’ve done ok. 6/10 I’d give our summer work, and mostly because of the Sanchez signing. I’m still confused and disgusted we’ve gone into the season with 6 defenders filing 4 positions. No excuses in my view. Not sure how you can sell Vermaelen without initially replacing him. Once again we’ve gone into a season without a proper DM and it will cost us. But of the players we did get, I’m pretty happy. Chambers and Debuchy are very good additions. I’m warming to Welbeck more and more. Ospina is still a question mark.

Only just noticed, there isn't a single defender in the best 10 list. None really deserving, or they just been overlooked?

I genuinely cannot think of a single defender who deserves a place in that list. Chambers, I believe, is a good buy, but him being shunted out right has tarnished his early season promise.

Really thought Steven Caulker might have been a great buy, but he's had an awful start in an awful team at QPR.

Creswell's been pretty good for West Ham

He's been decent. Wouldn't say he's been a standout player though. West Ham along with Chelsea have probably done the best business in the summer.

Robertson apparently been pretty decent for Hull. Having said that I have no idea when he signed or if it's even true

I've watched hull twice and West ham 3 times so ill stay quiet on their performances..

Yes he has been decent and signed this summer, from Dundee.

Bertrand at Southampton, although I guess it is his 76th loan spell rather than a permanent signing.

Shaws almost repaid his fee already with his performances

Herrera shouldn't even be on there. He's looked good whenever he's played besides 30mins against Leicester where the whole team fell apart.

5 games, 2 goals, 1 assist, 89% pass completion. That's probably more goals and assists than our CMs got combined in the whole of last season.
