Not detracting from the odi thread on the England/Sri-lanka series.
Just thought I'd add my thoughts on the matter of the England selecting of players..
The way its a closed shop..am all for backing your players. But right now Cook is not batting well.
It seems ok for to him to carry on batting garbage and its fine aslong as he is captain.
Hes not the greatest one day play as anyone can see. But to suggest he is dropped is heresy.
I don't normally agree with KP but I think he wants the best for England when it comes to the odi games and he can see cook aint worth his spot..
Only people who cant see this is the team management and Cook himself.
these are the people getting paid to do this by the paying public.
Cook will be gone after the world cup anyway... why not get Hales into the set up before its to late?.
The likes of Taylor needs a go.. But NOPE Morgan and Bell.. are part of the IN TEAM and they are staying aswell.

No.
Is Alastair Cook the best ODI captain in England?
No.
Drop him.

I finished reading his book last week, and You could agree with what he is saying about Cook, but alot of his comments seem to be from a personnel level, rather than for Cricketing reasons.
In his book he goes on to say Cook is a nice guy, and he would do anything to help him do be successful. However it looks like their relationship has deteriorated.
From his attack on Prior, which, in bits, may have been correct, but he laid into "The Big Cheese" for several chapters.
I'd take his comments with a pinch of salt from know.

England Have an outdated ODI selection policy. 270-280 isn't good enough anymore, these days you want to be aiming for well in excess of 300. With that in mind, you have to select strokemakers and power hitters.
The team should be something like:
Moeen Ali
James Vince
Ian Bell (C)
James Taylor
Jason Roy
Ravi Bopara
Jos Buttler
Chris Woakes
Stuart Broad
James Tredwell
James Anderson
I understand that certain players have been rested from this current tour, however assuming a full strength side is selected, that's what I'd go for.
The England selectors are too caught up with trying to keep a consistent side in the three formats, particularly with the batting. I think this is the wrong way to go. If it so happens that your eleven best test players are also your eleven best one day players, then great, however this is clearly not the case with England. Some might be surprised at my omitting Joe Root. I think he is a top class batsman, and will be considered a great player for England by the time he retires. However, as it stands I do not think he is one of the six best one day batsmen in England.
Something else that intrigues me is why do the selectors feel it necessary to fiddle around with the bowling? I think the skills required to be a good test bowler and a good one day bowler are far more transferable than those in the batting department. With the notable Exception of Tredwell, who I rate as a one day bowler but not a first class bowler, the bowlers should remain far more consistent.

You cant make Ian Bell the captain now. The idea of him being a captain in any form is over.
