It's clear to everyone the players excelled at the pressing game yesterday.
Does anyone have a view on why they haven't done this before though?
Is it because only younger players like Bentableb and Mason have the stamina to make it work?
Or because most of them are lazy s but felt yesterday they had to put in a performance because the manager is under pressure?
I'm wondering why they only played with energy yesterday.
Anyway, the formation and lineup were good yesterday.
I like to call that particular setup the "anti-Chronic". A total rejection of everything a certain poster has been fapping off to for years as 'the way forward'. This poster, who shall be unmentioned, once said 4 4 2 was a 'dinosaur formation'. They were wrong then and wrong now.
The anti-chronic setup
- total rejection of the idea you need to play a specialist "defensive midfielder" (the best midfielders are orthodox midfielders who can defend AND attack).
- The end of narrow play. It was so refreshing to see wide play again. We seemed to abandon it straight away after Redknapp left.
- 4.4.2 - nuff said.
- Play your best players. Great to see Vertonghen in the side and doing well. Consider for him captain if he keeps it up.
One problem was the Chronic-esque inclusion of Vlad, whose a walking liability, hopefully he will be gone when injuries return to fitness .
