I only have time to do a potted version of this match thread due to being busy with work but here goes:
This is a game that has had to be re arranged twice due to other matches taking preference over the earlier ones.
The winners play Preston at home in the JPT Northern Semi Final then Tranmere or Walsall await in the Northern Final with a trip to Wembley the prize for the winner.
I think i am right in saying that the Northern Final will be a two legged affair so in esscence we are 4 games from Wembley.
PD has gone on record as having told the players that this Cup is the shortcut to Wembley because obviously we aren't going to win the FA Cup.
We have some players who have played at Wembley before and they have been drilling into the other lads what a great experience it is.
This indicates to me that unless injuries force the issue that we won't be putting out a weakened team and taking the competition lightly.
Notts County were founder members of the FL but incredibly we didn't play them until 1950.
Since then we have won 19 matches to their 18 with six draws.
We have scored 73 goals to their 74.
So, overall virtually nothing between us.
County come to visit us with an unbeaten away record so far this season, as opposed to our poor return of only six points from our home league games this season, equally the worst in the division.
However, County are on a run of only one win in their last six matches compared to us having had only one defeat in the last eight matches.
Who's confidence will be at its' highest?
I would like to think it will be us.
Our incredible away form has lifted the spirits of the fans and the team which is beginning to replicate what happened a couple of years ago in L1 when we struggled in the main to win home games but had the best away record in the whole football league.
It is time to start and redress the balance now though and it would be great if we can get a couple of home wins this week to give the Keepmoat faithfull something to cheer about.
The poor home form has left the atmosphere a bit flat in the stadium at times but everyone knows that scoring first in a game lifts the crowd as well as the players.
Myself, MrDong, Pig, Lanza, Mrs Lanza, Azza and Zigger will certainly be at the game but i don't forsee there being many more on a freezing cold Yorkshire evening so anyone listening to RP may even here one of us shouting abuse at the ref when he gets his decisions wrong.
Xon, i am relying on you to put your usual more eloquent comments on the thread during the game as you describe the impending victory.

Donaldo surely the ref was in better position to decide if robinson was obscuring the keepers view as he was stood near to bennet as the lino was stood 90 degrees to his right snd not see the flight of the ball

Lanza: I can see your point, but consider the ref’s reaction to his decision effectively being challenged by his assistant. The ref would think that he was right, but if the assistant insisted on being consulted, he would have to listen to what he had to say and acknowledge that he saw it from another angle. We don't know what was said and we cannot pretend to be unbiased. If Dickov managed the other side and the goal had been given after consultation I bet he would have complained just as vigorously.
The natural reaction for the ref would be to tell the assistant why he thought his decision was right. To change his mind, especially to the disadvantage of the home team, takes not only a very convincing argument, but a good deal of courage. This would also account for the length of the consultation.
The ref, not the assistant, has an absolute right to make the final judgment and in this instance he took account of observation from another angle, an important aspect of off-side decisions where the side-on perspective is crucial.
It is a question of judgement, irrespective of whether contact was made and since none of you saw the incident from more than one angle, you must surely acknowledge that the ref ultimately had more information on which to base his decision than any one individual in the crowd.

Can someone please tell me what the fook those officials where on the other night.
Keeper in middle of goal, player shoots from edge of box through a crowd of players into the bottom corner. Goal not given because a player jumped over the ball.
Now unless the keeper has got eyes like a fooking banana, how the hell did he impede his vision.
Or was it the other 15 players infront of him that made him dive that late the ball had bounced back out.
I've seen some bad decisions involving Donny over the years but a 12yr old linesman telling a ref to give offside takes the biscuit.

What you have to also consider don is that not one County player appealed against anything until they saw the linesman with his flag raised.
The ref was in a central position and had a far better view than the linesman about whether Carrol had his view obstructed.
The refs first reaction was to give the goal.
How could the linesman have had a view on whether Theo was in the keepers line of sight.
I bet even Biltcliffe was astonished by that decision.
What you also haven't seen don either was the reaction of Derry AFTER he saw the flag was raised.
Now if you want to see a mnager jumping about and trying to get attention, this would have been the moment.

My views are based on how I think the referee probably reached his decision.
Most decisions that most responsible people make are made honestly.
I was not there and I have no reason to doubt what you say about opposition reaction.
However interference with play is not simply a question of the goalkeeper’s vision being obscured. The rule is:
“A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position”
If the ball was so close to Robinson that he could have touched it, this would surely provided a rationale to constitute the “gaining (of) an advantage” because from the goalkeeper’s perspective he could have diverted the ball. The goalkeeper may well have failed to save it because he had to cover that option.

The point about the ref being made to change his mind takes me back to that old RL referee, Sgt Major Eric Clay. On many occasions HE made the decision. However, players would point to a touch judge with his flag raised.
Clay would then go over to the TJ and start a conversation, asking about his family or a TV show. His view was, I am the ref, I make the decision, and I stand by it.
Not a very good attitude it must be said, but at least it stopped dialogue like we are having. Of course in those days they did not have replays.

The ref was very poor all night let them spoil.
He should have stuck to his initial descion GOAL

Don, i know the rule.
The point i am making is that the ref gave the goal initially based on his own view of the situation.
He was obviously happy to give the goal at that time.
He changed his mind after consultation with the linesman who had flagged for Theo being in an offside position.
The linesman was not in a position to see whether Theo was in the line of the keepers sight.
Week in and week out goals like that are allowed even if players are in an offside position.
My point is then, as i keep repeating, that if the ref was happy that Theo had not interfered initially how could anything the linesman have said have altered his initial thought that the goal was good.
I do not doubt that the two of them are honest people trying to do their jobs but to rule out the goal was a very bad decision.

Exactly
I was sat in s.stand directly behind goal the lino had a much more inferior view of the goal.
Even he had a delay before the flag went up as I always look to the lino when a goal is scored.not one of their players asked for a descion!
