Oh No! I hope AVB isn't being lined up

AVB to Anfield? Liverpool look to ex-Chelsea and Spurs boss as Brendan Rodgers replacement

LIVERPOOL may steer away from Arsenal managerial target Jurgen Klopp and go after ex-Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas should they dispense with Brendan Rodgers.

Klopp, who was touted as a possible target for Liverpool and the Gunners, shelved suggestions last month he would make a dramatic move to the Premier League when he said: "The only other language I speak is English a little bit and, for my type of coaching, I need the language.

"But not now, not this year, I don’t know when."

Villas-Boas, who was sacked last year by Tottenham, has enjoyed a renaissance at Zenit St Petersburg.

The Portuguese is on course to win the Russian league in his first full season in charge.

According to The Times, Liverpool's owner FSG (Fenway Sports Group) are weighing up their options and have asked Villas-Boas to provide details of his coaching methods.

They claim that Villas-Boas is currently the leading candidate to replace the beleaguered Rodgers.

It is also believed that FSG's long-term plans revolves around consistently qualifying for the Champions League.

The Reds' title hopes were effectively ended yesterday after a goalless draw at home to Sunderland, but whether FSG will keep faith in Rodgers in the long term is another matter altogether.

Comment - I hope this isn't true. BR deserves patience after last season's achievement. As for AVB, he is a good manager in certain types of league, but the EPL may not be his cup of tea having been in Chelsea and Spurs.

He was available last time around and we opted for BR. Can't see why that would have changed.

He was actually my preference over BR at the time but given his experience at Chelsea and Spurs I think a bit more than 1 season away would be necessary before giving the EPL another go. He looked a broken man when he left Spurs and as R1 said, it's not as if the results were that bad, his confident just looked shot.

It's not as if one team has made a mistake with Villas Boas its two and I would be amazed if we would be stupid enough to be the third.

Think most knew what a gamble Balotelli represented but one awful player in the team compared to a manager who may turn out to be awful is nowhere near as bad.

He basically got sacked by Spurs because of the hammerings in the big games.

This season though they have lost 3-0 to us, 4-1 to City, 4-0 to Chelsea. We also beat them 4-0 when Sherwood was manager.

They have bigger issues that the manager that are contributing to these results, Levy just panicked.

If Rodgers does get the boot any time soon, which is a big if, then we are highly unlikely to get anyone with more trophies on their CV than AVB.

AVB was OK, treated absolutely shockingly by the British press. Good manager.

M8 of mine who does the electrics at Anfield says Roy Keane is being spoken to. Possibly as part of a team with AVB
