Vidic returning to you in January

Manchester United agree deal to bring Vidic back to Old Trafford: Nemanja Vidic left United to sign for Inter Milan last summer but after a disappointing spell in Italy, the Serbia international is set to return to the Manchester club, that is according to the Daily Star. The report gives no further details other than that the Serbian will return in January but Louis van Gaal sees him as a back-up player.

Paper Round’s view: This deal makes sense for all parties. Inter get a player who is underperforming off their books and United get a proven Premier League defender back amongst their ranks who knows the inner workings of the club. One sticking point, however, could be whether Vidic would be willing to take on the role as a back-up player – particularly considering the fact that United are currently in a state of defensive disarray.

Yes, he's already training with the Red Devils,” Martina sarcastically responded when asked about a Vidic return to United.

“It's all just stories. Vidic has a three-year deal with Inter and he's not moving from Milan.

“There's almost no point in commenting the nonsense being spread and I don't even see for what reason the lad would be accosted to other teams.”

“There's been little respect for the player I represent, not by Inter, but by the Press.

“As soon as the Nerazzurri got a couple of games wrong, the Press didn't think twice before attacking Vidic, pointing fingers at him as the only one worthy of blame.

“I'll say this again - he's not moving from Inter.”

nothing to see here, Daily Star inventing bollox as per.

If I worked for your company and could clearly see you were a terrible boss who was losing the company money, but the directors were saying you've got a 6 year contract, then I'm not going to be able to change that am I? You'd be mad to stay and go down with the ship

Does this mindset not worry you in anyway though?

What If he gets here and thinks LvG is a loose cannon and starts thinking about his next move again?

There is no mention of this being a loan move or 5 month contract.... and if it is, he is in dreadful form... ST85 saying his time at Milan should be ignored is crazy, he has only played 10 games for a reason.

That mindset seems sensible to me. Come on man, Vidic playing his heart out wasn't going to outweigh Moyes' utter cluelessness was it? I'll concede that, in business, you might be able to bust a gut and turn things around personally, but Vidic wouldn't have been able to do that. Plus, he owes us nothing, he gave his all for United and was a great captain and his contract had ended

He signed for Inter in January.... If I remember rightly, we were doing ok then... breezed the CL group and were putting together a string of wins.

Anyway, enough of this... I agree he was a great player and captain.

What I will never wrap my head around is why we didn't just ship him out in January... It must have been spinning players head's to know their captain was off, no matter what happened.

Agree with that Ji

Moyes was wrong to let him keep the captaincy once he announced he was off

I actually wouldn't want Vidic back. I just don't think he is anywhere near the player he used to be, and he's very much a short-term solution - the club need to be more forward thinking than this. And whilst we don't want to be a club that is 'just coping' defensively, we may need to be just doing that until our defensive problems are sorted. No matter what happened off the pitch in Vidic's final year, it wasn't a great one, and he's currently not shown great form, and it's all too easy to say if he came back he could just turn his form back on like a switch.

I would also doubt that LVG would be keen to bring back a player from Utd's past, and rather choose someone fresh to the club. All this doesn't stop the fact that Vidic was a great player for the club, but his time has been and gone, time to move on.
