just want to make a point about this guy.
there seems to be a few out there that don't really rate him and if you are one of them you really have no eye for a very talented and athletic young man. he maybe a bit more on the athletic side than talent but he does have plenty of both.
he keeps defenses busy he has very good hold up and passing play IMO and can beat players fairly easy, just like the OX needs to work on his finishing. but even if that takes time he will create goals for others in the team because you as an opposing team just can not leave him alone out there.
I actually thought Giroud and him would be a good complimentary combination and I think that's what is happening. Giroud is getting much more space in the box which is good as his not a quick player but Welbeck is.
As I side note, I don't care how well Gervhino is now playing outside the premier league, Welbeck is massively better especially for the Premier league.
Welbeck

This is Welbeck's first season as a regular let alone being tried up front. Its hilarious that some players are given the benefit even though we know what they can do having been here for 2 years.
Welbeck is not the finished product but his improvement is amazing. Its only a matter of time when he his finishing catches up with the rest of his play which is already very good. And if it doesn't? Nothing lost because his work rate and off the ball movement to create space for others will always be positive for the team.

Here, here op. Welbeck has everything about him to succeed. Although already mentioned his work rate and attitude is one of the best I have seen. His off the ball runs and his 100 percent effort will always make me support him. No big time Charlie, just a good professional. A lot of our players could learn a lot from him.

Personally I think he plays better on left with Giroud up top.

Most definitely.
Our game is better, imo, when the pace is wide. It suits our creative players more to have a 'statue' up front and players like Walcott and Welbeck running past him.

People laughed at me when I said that Welbeck and Giroud could play together...
I was right and you must not be a genious to figure that out. Both players have different abilities. Both players can leave you in frustration when having a bad game.
Welbeck is a good player with ability and pace. He is not a goalscorer but is willing to improve. He is not lazy either and try hard to get into games. I like him at Arsenal and I am happy that we brought him in.

Well said op, there are too many clueless mongs who believe his is rubbish, but the people with real football sense know he is a good player.

I guess that rules LVG out then?
As said above, he'll make a good squad player for a top team, and be a good starter for a mid-table or lower team. Not sure he'll ever be good enough to go beyond that.

Was at he match yesterday and at one stage Ollie was playing on the right with Welbs down the middle. IMO this did not work at all as Ollie has no pace on the right. Much better the other way around.
Both players are decent squad/ impact players but I do feel that we can do better.
The problem is that as soon as any top CF emerges he is snapped up by the big money clubs .
The real requirement is for a decent DMF. That is where I would put most of my money. Not convinced by Khedira . Too injury prone.

People who wants a change upfront and better upfront of what we have need to answer the question who they want.

I thought Welbeck did OK yesterday, he was unselfish and held a lot of things together with his team play. Had a great goal ruled out and unlucky with the volley. I like his attitude, not sure he had the quality to be a first XI player for Arsenal in the long term.

Thats just it. Welbeck could improve as he is just 23. Giroud is Giroud.
We could do with a better striker but finding one that fits within Wenger's budget is extremely difficult. We can only buy one world calibre player a season. Man City/Chelsea/Man Utd can buy 2/3.
So at the moment I would prefer if Wenger blows next season on a Pogba (Vieira) type player. Oxlade has made huge difference already playing in the middle and adding some direct running. His passing still needs to improve. Its benefiting Santi as well. Just like it did Ramsey against Gala.
