Don't forget to mention Boyzone. I'll go for the racing, however the wife will go to see Ronan.

Newbury racecourse had old Rod Stewart singing a few ditties last month (Bank Holiday weekend) however they didn’t attach a race meeting to said concert! Later in the year they’ve also got Tom Jones.
Bath raccourses summer ‘musical highlight’ by comparsion is the old Wurzels at the end of next month!

I suppose it depends on your definition of decent value really. If iw ant to watch horses I go racing and if I want to wacth a concert I'll fgot a music venue. You get the worst of both worlds at these things as most of the bands are rubbish and even if they're not the accoustics are hardly conducive to a decent musical experience. You also end up paying more, obviously, than if the bands were not there.
Still, nice to see that racing for change is now doing it bith ways and having horses at concerts - Workforce is running against Montjeu over a lap of the track at Wembley before Take That come on - he might have a chance of beating an older Coolmoore horse that way

Friggin music nights dear me. Exactly the kind of c rap that is spoiling racing - Instead of investing in shi ttty music nights why don't they invest in emmm i don't know... RACING !!!!!!!!!!!!!- And don't give me the c r ap that this helps racing does it foook you just get old twats turning up that have no clue whats going on, or a bunch of que ers lining up getting mortal whilst waiting for the Scissor Sisters to come on stage

bob:i would guess youd only really go if you wanted to see both.if its just racing you want then the racenight is usually followed next day by a normal meeting.i enjoy both and it means the concert with jools holland for instance costs about £8.thats good value imo

Gary, I take it that you would rather attend a racecourse or meeting where the attendance figures do not meet expectations, or put it another way a meeting that attracts one man and his dog? Whereas the summer nights at Newmarket are packed and with a great atmosphere, I know which meeting I would rather attend (and I'm not even a boyzone fan).

Garydoesgreatleighs - that was a top post! Agree totally.

I agree with Gary actually. Would rpefer that there were 10 people there who enjoyed the sport itself rather than a bunch of lashed up music fans who couldnlt tell one end of the horse from another, get in your way constantly, block up the bookie stands because they donlt have a clue what they're doing, block up the bars because they selfishly insist on hgetting about 3 rounds in and order 1 drink at a time and then turn nasty. Yeah - great atmosphere that is.
And before anyone jumps in - yes i know lots of people that go actually know about and enjoy both. Sadly too many don't.

An interesting point you all make. However does this also mean you do not like to attend the Guineas meeting, the Derby meeting, the National meeting or the festival at Cheltenham ?

In my case - yes absolutely I hate big event junkies and they tend to be very prevalent at all the meetings you mention.
