pressure didn't matter, the tactic worked
----------------------------------------------------------------------
????? WUM attempt? We won the game inspite of those tactics. Every minute that passed by they looked more of a threat and we looked less a threat.

I don't understand why Wenger makes the same subs every game, especially after they blew up in his face vs Liverpool
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This - we got completely pinned back against Liverpool and we lost it. Similarly, we lost points against Anderlecht when we tried to sit back, and we almost lost points again in the last two games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't complain about the Anderlecht draw. Dortmund probably wish we had won.

Haha! True!

And Godfather, I'm not moaning. Myself and others made a point during the match that reducing our pace and energy from our more attacking players invited pressure - this argument was criticised so I (and others) have responded - and the debate has spilled over past FT.
Delighted to have won, but a big part of this forum is discussing the tactical side of the game, so I don't see anything wrong with questioning certain tactical decisions.

super important win for us.

But it seems like you are just moaning for the sake of it. At the end of the day regardless of what subs we make, west ham or any team are going to go for it in last five mins of the game. we are going to invite pressure no matter what so why not bring on defensive players? it worked superbly for us last season having 4 full backs on.

I'm not moaning for the sake of it. I'm probably one of the more sympathetic posters to Wenger's cause (I didn't criticise the Monreal CB decision, nor the Debuchy one, nor the decision to sign Welbeck (which was pretty unpopular at first) all of which would have been easy to do given the criticism he was receiving for it at the time....if I'd wanted to moan for the sake of it, these would have been perfect opportunities).
But this is a forum to discuss football, so I don't see what's wrong with questioning tactical changes if you don't agree with them.
There's always going to be pressure in that situation, but attacking pace can at the very least help relieve it, whether it's through pressing their deeper players (cutting off the angles with which they have to launch balls into the box), running in-behind to provide an outlet to our long-balls/clearances, or even just using their pace and energy to help make up ground, close-down players, track-back etc.
If you don't agree with that, that's fine - I respect your opinion and these sort of discussions are what this place is all about - but I don't think it's fair to dismiss these points as moaning.

Agree about these new end of game tactics. The players clearly aren't drilled in it, Wenger just chucks on more defenders and we become shaky.

Todays game was very open so I understand to an extent but we cannot start doing this regularly.
