People keep talking about a midfield passing game but forget that we've hoofed the ball many times this season even without fellaini in the side. Watch the spurs game again.

One word: Evans.

Jones grew into the Spurs game and I'm not his biggest fan, made some very good tackles but also gave away clumsy fouls. Evans couldn't do anything right.

In fairness, I'd rather that than feck around trying to pass it about and making mistakes like Everton. But still, we are better than that.
Interestingly, as JSPC has said above, I think Carrick suits a back 3 - he's so calm and composed and can pick a pass. With Herrera as a CM, Carrick at CB works I reckon.

I think Shaw as part of the back 3 would work too....
Our biggest problem with the 3 man backline is CBs getting flustered receiving the ball wider than they are used to. They only have 1 CB in the middle, so have to be very careful with passing the ball back when under pressure (as we have seen).
With Shaw there, he is less likely to get flustered. Smalling and Jones are both used to playing on the right, so are less likely to make mistakes.
Evans is currently a much maligned player, but he is adapting to the only position in the 3 man backline that is completely alien to our CBs.

JSPC this is fair, since we've been playing 3 t the back I've noticed that (certainly in how we play it) it is actually more like 1 at the back, with the two wide CB's playing more as defensive full backs. Hence, as you say, the right or left sided ones are not used to being so wide and having so few options.

Not a bad shout, that.
We finished the Spurs game with him in a back 3 I believe.

Yeah apart from conceding the pen against Newcastle he has been good lately, just a shame he will pick up the usual injury and will go around the cycle again.
