Ched Evans

Ok, so the boy has done his time but no one wants to be associated with him. Is it fair? 20k random signatures may stop him signing for Oldham and government departments are preventing him from working over seas. Is his conviction too much for any club or should he be allowed to work having served his time?

Having read through the post I am siding more towards smid as he seems to be the only one who has read the case notes in detail and has based his conclusion on the facts of the case rather than the media portrayal

Modern society with all these online petitions and social media have a lot to answer for

I would tend to side with the judge and jury who heard all of the evidence and made their informed decision based on that. This 'they didnae like him' excuse does not wash. An entire jury didn't like him enough to convict him of something (heinous) which they didn't think he actually did? I don't think so.

What should he be allowed to do if not the job he trained for since he was a young boy? Too many people sounding off with no connection to Oldham Athletic. Although a bit of sense from their directors regarding announcing interest in signing him and then seeming to have found the 'attitude' to that enough to make them reconsider. Did they think the bunting would be nailed up?
Having skimmed some stuff about the case it is clearly not the most clear cut guilty verdict, done 2.5 years, has another 2 years probation and is introduced into every media article as 'convicted rapist Ched Evans' he is really getting some comeuppance anyway. We don't introduce other former criminals prefixed by the offence, such as convicted drink driver and football manager/footballer.
Marlon King wasn't introduced as convicted woman beater' every time he was discussed.
Let him play and find your kids role models from closer to home, school or work .
