If, as now seems likely, Oldham are daft enough to sign Ched Evans I for one won't watch him play against us or even run the risk, which means I won't attend any Rovers games against Oldham, home or away while he is with them. I won't have a penny of my money going to them.

How many of us have woken up next to someone and thought, who's this then???

Many moons ago when I was young,I did live in the Algarve when I was 21yrs old till I was 24yrs old and had nights when I wasn't that fussy due to the drink.
That's a lifetime ago though

Did it a few times in my uni days. The one morning I woke up following a night out, let out a rasping fart, rolled over and there was a girl I didn't remember meeting lay next to me. That was awkward.

Been there done that - sadly it was my current girlfriend.
One night stand gone wrong and 6 months later here I am
In seriousness this whole case is a farce. Never should have been convicted in the first place and nobody should (agree with Yankee here) be named under after the case under any circumstances.
Media and the twittersphere have far too much say in these kind of cases - the fact that the Pistorius trial was broadcast live on TV is a complete injustice.

Yeah trial by media is a nightmare...
TBH it was the whole public witch hunt which I had a problem with. If it was stated in law that Ched couldn't play football I wouldn't have been to bothered about it...
Its the fact it isn't written in law but people tried to achieve through pressure and barracking the guy... have people signing petitions for a club not to sign him when they don't give a damn about that particular club.

These same people use the action of a few thugs who have hounded the girl involved under the guise of 'Evans supporters' as justification for their mob mentality. Most of the people who have signed the petition won't have heard of him before this, are likely not to watch him play anyway and won't have actually looked into the case other than reading the media witch hunt.
If you read the case notes and look at the evidence that was used to convict him, you can make a strong argument either way, which is why I think people should wait to see the outcome of his appeal and show a little bit more tact rather than this gung ho attitude.
After all, if it does turn out he was wrongly convicted, a lot of people and the media will be made to eat some humble pie. No doubt, all these people whose only argument is that he was found guilty, will campaign for a retrial though, saying it is an injustice without seeing their own hypocrisy.

A lot of people have picked their position now, on both sides in fairness. The verdict will be almost irrelevant to some I can imagine. Which is a shame really, I generally try to keep an open mind either way....
The only thing I was convinced off was that the media witch hunt was wrong and everybody dipping their toes into for some easy positive PR lost a lot of respect from me.
Having read the case notes myself its hard to convince myself one way or the other, its dodgy but not beyond reasonable doubt but we are only sampling the evidence (even with watching the cctv footage) we aren't getting the full effect the jury had. So its hard to call.... though I am just indecisive rather than some wise judge to say we shouldn't judge for ourselves.
TBH I was hoping he'd get a club just to spite the media hunt and because the law should sort out punishments not the papers, bored people on twitter and the odd celebrity after good pr. As for what I am hoping for from the appeal....
I can't really say I am hoping for anything, I am not sure if he did it or not so I can't really want one verdict or the other. Whilst part of me would love him to be declared innocent to spite the witch hunt and teach people lesson I wouldn't want him to be declared innocent if he is right guilty...

You probably got the gist of it anyway.

The point of starting this thread was to debate the decision to employ a convicted rapist in, what is, an arm of the entertainment industry. I think it is a bad decision and will damage both Oldham and football. Others, who are entitled to their opinions, think otherwise. What it should never have become about was safety of the conviction. If Evans is cleared on appeal he will be wholly employable by anyone. Until then, or if the appeal fails, any potential employer should calculate the effect on their business and, I hope, the industry as a whole. (In answer to an earlier point - I worked in the justice system for six years.)

And now it's off with even more unpleasantness and threats to the club's staff/relatives. What a sorry business.

Final thought about all this. You would have thought that those advising Evans would have allowed him one chance. That having failed, ie a return to the Blades, they would have advised he back off until after his appeal.
They must have realised how bad the feelings against him were and as such they have put him into this invidious situation. He needs to get a new agent who will look after him instead of making him a target.
