I know it looks silly but i think hodgson wanted to give some credit to defenders.

It's a fair point Mr C, i'm a fan of defenders too having been one for years.

I think Hodgson was prioritising performances at the World Cup too. Understandable to an extent.

Yep bales. I think he knew full well Messi and Ronaldo were going to be the top 2 so picked defenders and Neuer. Right guy won in the end though

Then someone needs to tell Hodgson what the award is actually for. I guess he forgot the award for player of the tournament was already awarded by FIFA along with the trophy after England had one of their worst performances in a WC ever.
