What the eck is sacking Pearce going to achieve, so what we aint walked the league we at some point have to get some stability in the club. that means we have to stick by a manager at some point, and i for one think we are in a better position than when the poison dwarf was here ripping the heart out of our club we need to build solid foundations before we can move forward seems to me this is happening. Once they are in place maybe someone else will have to take the reigns to get us to the next level. but for now this is where we are

As much as Fawaz may be frustrated by things, the only way we are going to achieve our aims is with gradual progress, as that article by Forest Boffin shows us. We can't buy our way up, that's for sure!

I think Derby are going to have to drop their performance levels (possible if the pressure of overwhelming favourites gets to them?) and Forest are going to have to acquire some luck (conspicuous by its absence recently) to get something out of the game. Really up to the players this one. Pearce will have them in no doubt what this game means to the club. The players have to decide whether they really care about playing for Forest or not. Forest's chances will be decided by their attitude...

FYI Stuart Pearce is, in my opinion, a genuine Forest hero and always will be. Am I deluded?

For anyone who saw what he gave to the club over twelve years he always will be regardless of what he achieves or doesn't achieve over the next few months. What he did can never be tainted.

Anyway to return to the topic of the post:

I don't think it is the result as much as the performance. I just want to see they care as much as the fans and the manager do. I can accept defeat as long as they go down fighting and give everything they have

Our opponents will make it a physical and cynical game. We have to be prepared for that and match them. They will push and shove, they will obstruct, they will pick up the ball after conceding a free kick and then stand over the ball when we try to take the kick. The form we are in at the moment they probably could outplay us, but there is no way they will risk it. It's gonna be ugly.

For a 'big' ex-player to return to his ex-stamping ground as manager is a terribly difficult thing to do and make a real success of it - difficult for the player and fans alike.

Mackay did it at Derby, and for a while achieved the impossible by building on Brian's team and taking the club to a second league title, but since then it never really worked for Derby.

The Forest success who is parallel to Mackay is Frank Clark, of course, who as manager so nearly took Forest back to the glory days of 15 or so years before, but like Mackay earlier at Derby, boardroom splits and opportunist takeovers split the club from top to bottom and Clark walked away.

McFarland had a couple of 'ok' spells at Derby, Todd and Gregory were unmitigated disasters. I've ignored McClaren because he wasn't really a 'hero' on the pitch by any stretch of the imagination.

I think what I'm trying to say is that it's difficult for an ex-player of hero status to enhance his status when re-joining as manager - but it's very easy to tarnish it.

Not heard a peep about Assombalonga. Can't decide whether that is a good or a bad thing?

I agree with your last point REV. I would like Pearce out and someone better in. The first part is easy, the second is very difficult at the moment and has to be done carefully. Now is not the time. The first thing we need to do is come up with a transition strategy. That will take care and time.

I would like to see a Director of Football, or Technical Director (call him what you like) appointed first who can work on this strategy and then implement it.
