Ezequiel Lavezzi

LIVERPOOL have been boosted in their bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi as the Ligue 1 giants line up Nicolas Gaitan as his replacement.

The Reds are long-term admirers of the Argentine international, having lost out to PSG to sign him from Napoli in 2012.

But Lavezzi could finally arrive at Anfield for a measly £8m with PSG looking to offload the 29-year-old in January.

The Ligue 1 giants are aiming to improve their Financial Fair Play situation by reducing their wage bill, with Lavezzi on a sizeable salary of £3.5m per season.

And the deal is looking increasingly likely as Parc des Princes boss Laurent Blanc lines up Benfica winger Gaitan as his successor.

The French tactician will, however, have to battle with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United for the 26-year-old's signature.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is hoping to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford to play alongside his compatriot Angel Di Maria in a £30m move.

Now this would be an astute signing. We were linked to Lavezzi during the Benitez era.

He is overrated by a lot of Liverpool fans because he played very well against us once for Napoli, but he is a good player.

Scores or assists every other game throughout his career, consistently.

He doesn't get injured very often and still has a few good years left in him yet.

Not sure where or how he would fit in for us though, and I don't think we really need him.

sign him up better than most of our forwards and works really hard so dont really see the downside for 8 m

Weve just got ibe back, so this won't be happening now

ibe could be loaned to a prem team so who knows. Story sounds like bull anyway and hes good enough for majority of prem teams so there would be competition from a few top clubs if true

Don't think Prem teams can loan to other Prem teams in January. Season-long loans only.

Didn't know that R1 cant really understand bringing him back. I fear FFP is a real issue which is surprising to me esp as we have let alot of seasoned pros on decent wedge leave since FSG took over ie Jovanvic, Cole etc
