Di Maria - Season so far

What do you lot think of his performances so far this season? Do you think he has justified his 60 mill price tag? Does he play better on the wings or in a central position? What was he realistically worth? If PSG offered 60 mill for him in the summer would you take it?

Contributions in Spurs or contributions in Madrid.

Hmmmm

Yes, Bale has done both. His last 3 seasons he has performed well in both England and Spain - unlike Di Maria (or Suarez for that matter).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But it's fair to say that Di Maria was the better and offered a hight contribution that Bale last season, in Madrid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

True, but it's also fair to say that over a longer period that Bale has been more consistent. He's been top class pretty consistently for 3/4 years whereas Di Maria has been good but only really stood out last season.

This season Bale is miles ahead.

And last season Bale joined RM after no pre-season, and adapted very quickly to a new club and new league (a lot more quickly than either Suarez or ADM adapted to the PL).

ADM was arguably better last season - arguably, not clearly - but Bale got over 20 goals, including in the final of the Copa del Rey and CL.

But I agree with the main point, one standout season does not make ADM better than Bale, in the same way that last season does not make Sturridge better than Aguero.

Di Maria has more influence on a game, but Bale and turn a game on it's head in seconds.

Don't get me wrong, I'd swap Bale and Di Maria at the drop of a hat.

But di Maria has only really shown that influence consistently last season where as Bale has been showing his game changing ability for quite a while now.

I'm delighted we have di Maria but the truth is he's been very poor for the past few months.

This is not a Bale vs ADM debate. Personally, i'd rather have Reus over the two of them.

Back to to the topic at hand, it is pretty obvious that ADM has been very underwhelming to even his most ardent fans (of which i am one).

His report card from me would read :C+ at best so far this season; flashes of brilliance but much room for improvement.

I think the major part of the reason why he is playing so poorly is because he, like many of us, can't seem to understand what LVG is asking of him.

I don't think it also helps that our midfielders are so poor at moving the ball forward quickly.

Agree on everything. Natural to compare the very big money signings to other big money signings I guess.

Would be interesting to know just how hard - if at all - United have tried to get Reus, given that we know his contract situation (and thus rough transfer fee), and that it would be very easy for a big English club to offer him both a larger stage on which to perform and a double/triple your money deal.

And any United fan watching Sanchez, and Costa this season, whilst claiming that ADM has been anything other than a disappointment so far, is fooling no one but himself.

I'd rather have Bale tbh. Right now I'd rate peak Di Maria as being better, but Bale delivers more consistently and I also think he's got greater room for improvement..

I'd rather have bale. Di Maria has been poor so far although he hasnt been helped by our tactics, injury and the adjustment to a new league.

If it's the same next season you can see di Maria arranging a move away.
