Just watching MNF and they are talking about per defending the corners and kosc setting up.
However, the real reason we defend corners better is because we have Giroud back in the team. He is our best defender at set pieces. He wins most battles and won most headers yesterday.
He is probably more productive in defending the corners than attacking them.
Fair play to him, he has stepped up big time this season.
Giroud most effective at defending corners

Good point Castor. I have been saying this for ages so I never understand it when Wenger takes him off when we are defending a slender lead and the opposition are hoofing balls in to the box and getting corners. He and Kos are the best two headers of the ball in the team.

We look so much more vulnerable defending in general, and especially from set pieces, when Giroud is off the pitch. Last year when we weren't scoring much the fact that he was quite good at helping out in defence turned into something of a stick to beat him with, but now we have Sanchez and Welbeck to lessen the scoring burden I think people are starting to better appreciate what exactly he brings to the team. His work rate is always 100% as well, for all his supposed shenanigans off the pitch he's never lazy on it.

Not only this but he also offers a reliable outlet when we are having to hoof clear and or play the long ball - in games where we are under a lot of pressure perhaps against a stronger side and in games where we are holding onto a lead and need a strong player who's also good in the air.

Yes. Giroud is far more effective to the team than most fans give him credit for.

Lets drop Mertesacker and play Giroud as CB.

Did I also read he has more headed goals since he signed than any striker in the league?
