So the BBC gossip column today contains a link - unfortunately to the Sun, ie behind a paywall - saying that United have been quoted £112m (presumably 150m euros) for Marquinhos.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/
This continues a trend of players the club is linked with being valued at silly figures - £50m for Hummels, £80m for Pogba/Strootman - and also their worrying recent trend of overpaying for players, with ADM the most obvious example, but Shaw/Herrera/Mata/Fellaini also able to be thrown into the pot.
So why is this happening? Woodword's big gob? Desperation? Can selling clubs see United coming a mile off? If so why are Arsenal/Chelsea able to get Sanchez/Fabregas in for c. £30m, but United have to pay £60m for ADM...are Arsenal not similarly desperate?

WHO in their right mind would believe that any club would pay £112M for a kid ffs?
Same sort of person who'd create a thread about it, probably

Who's left cheap?
Well all of the following could have been sold for £10m + as little as one year before they left, but were sold for peanuts:
Vidic
Evra
Kagawa
Pogba
Berbatov
and you will soon be able to add Nani and a few others to that list.
As to your second question, the answer has to be "as soon as possible"!

Guilty as charged!
The point is not that the club will spend £100m + on the kid, any more than they will spend £80m on Strootman, but I could see them spending £40m odd on each player, which would be far too much.

Don - the L&g one of your list who I believe we could have got a fee / better fee for would have been pogba and thats been well documented already.
The fact is the majority of players that leave us only tend to leave us if we want rid. This reduces room or negotiation somewhat. We also overpay and that has to be factored in hen considering any fee we receive for them.

I'm just curious though, Vidic is linked to a £30m move abroad, stays, then 18 months later leaves for free; whereas Terry is linked to a £30m move to City, and 4 years later is still first choice at Chelsea.
So if it all goes back to overpaying in the first place, why is that? Why can Madrid get Ozil and Khedira for £10m a pop, but United pay £27m for Fellaini? Is it that there is a glamour attached to the Spanish clubs, whereas to get foreigners to come to Manchester the only lure is cold hard cash?
I'm curious, and it seems it is a bigger issue for the club than ever before.

TBH a lot of United fans like to peddle this but you compare our net spend to the other English clubs and compare our success over the years and United don't actually do that bad for their money...
That has been changing in recent years though IMO.

Maybe United will buy back Welbeck for 200 million....at least it would be another good story to talk about and the media could have a field day....

Prices have gone bonkers in general, it's not like only the players that you're after are getting overpriced.
