Mikel Arteta signs 12-month extension at Arsenal. What do you think?
I thinks this is good IMO. He'll be a squad player next season and there's no point in upgrading on him with Gundogan who injuring pone himself. I'm reading Wenger hasn't finished yet with transfer but I reckon it has after the Paulista deal. If anything it will be a youngster. We got want we wanted, kinda We got a CB granted don't know much about him. But at least we finally got a CB in terms of numbers and it's not a kid or panic loan. Seems like a genuine player who may be in our starting 11 soon with Merte and Kos aging n their 30s
We also wanted a DM but with Coq recent performance I reckon Wenger will be happy to use Coq until the end of the season as a short term solution and then hope to look for a marquee DM in the summer with Coq, Arteta as squad back up and Flamini released.

He's not that bad, when he doesn't play you can see he's quite vital for us. Obviously we need a better player than him in that position but he's the best we got unfortunately.
Like I said he'll be a good squad player and if we can manage him well like Rosicky then the injuries will be less cos at this moment he was playing twice a week every week. He can be an important figure at the club on and off the pitch

In a handful of games Coquelin has shown this fraud up. Amazing to have someone in midfield who isn't a snail, can move, isn't a fairy and can tackle.

Any news on Coq contract? if we're trying to sign him up then I'm guessing we won't be buying another DM.

Apparently he wants first team assurance before signing.
I've always liked Coq, he's a good player. I would like us to sign a world class DM and have Coq as back up but I would understand if he wants first team football somewhere else

Whenever we have open training sessions you can always tell that Arsene treats him a bit like a coach. Good player to have around for the younger players. Same with Rosicky.

Poor decision. He's way behind Cazorla, Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere and even Rosicky at CM/CAM.
Can't play DM unless we're against very poor opposition.
He and Flamini should be binned with better players signed.

Arteta being a good idea is a no brainer. I can totally understand where Coq is coming from. He's been ay the club long enough to see several players seize their chance and play very well only to be dropped back to the bench like a bad habit, the minute that Arsene's "Favourite" is close to fit. If I was him, I'd want guarantees I wasn't going to be dropped as soon as Wilshere was fit again. I doubt Coq expects to play ahead of say Khedira if we signed him in the summer. But I think he feels he's proved he's better in that position than a fully fit Wilshere or Arteta. It's them he'll want to stay ahead of.
I'd like to see Arteta get to play in an attacking role as he did at Everton, with Coq in the defensive slot. I think given license to attack, he will be a big threat combining with our attackers. Look what he managed with Evertons attackers. Always looked a cut above his forwards/team. At Arsenal, he has attackers as/more capable than him. Have always thought it a shame he's had to be a DM. I'm convinced that he'd raise eyebrows

Wenger said he saw Coquelin had improved and he sent him out on loan to get ready for being a first teamer here. If that's true, it might swing things in terms of Coquelin signing on. Still don't expect him to though, I probably wouldn't.

I'm glad Arteta has been offered another year. He's a good solid squad player, and a good influence on the squad.
I agree with bodyguard, he could be a useful backup in that role.
