They played for both sides.........

This week sees the Mighty Whites take a short trip down the Leeds Road to the land of the Poodle for a re-run of the West Yorkshire derby and another instalment of "They played for both sides.......".

This episode focuses on a true Leeds United legend who also wore the blue and white stripes of Huddersfield Town. In a week where one former captain has followed that familiar path of so many others out of the ER gates it's fitting that we profile another ex-Leeds' skipper.

This player joined Leeds United from Huddersfield Town in 1972 for the princely sum of £100,000. Having made over 200 appearances for the Poodles, and as a club captain in the last few seasons, he signed for Leeds United and Don Revie going on to amass over 400 appearances for Yorkshire's finest, scoring 24 league goals in ten seasons.

Equally adept at left back or centre half (a bit like Liam Cooper, the current Leeds United captain until we sell him ) he became club captain in 1976, made 27 appearances for his country, captained England on occasions and was the third England international to receive a red card.

Following relegation to the old Division 2 in 1982 he left Leeds United to join a third West Yorkshire outfit, Bradford City.

His honours include First, Second & Third Division titles and runners-up in no less than 4 major cup finals.

His name? Trevor Cherry.

For followers of Leeds United......

1) who else was part of the deal that bought Trevor Cherry to Leeds United in 1972?
2) which managers did Trevor play under during his Leeds United career?
3) which current HUTFC player would you sign for Leeds United?
4) which other players have represented both clubs?
5) Neil Redfearn or Chris Powell?

For our friends who once found solace in a cowshed.....

1) what are your memories of our legend Trevor Cherry?
2) Chris Powell or Simon Grayson?
3) will you finish above Leeds United this season?
4) what's the next name for your stadium?

"They played for both sides........" Is the official unofficial warm up to the unusually premature Matchday Thread and is bought to you in association with www.ifonlywakeyhadanoriginalideathatwecouldtakethepissoutoftoobutunlikelyisntit.com

Over to you......

1) I have no memories of the bloke. He is the only person I've heard of with a fruit for a last name though I believe.

2) Hmmm...Powell I suppose. Nothing against Grayson but have you seen Chrissy P in that flat cap?

3) Yes. You've surprised me at how sh-t you are this campaign. Too much foreign muck in your squad in my opinion.

4) Hopefully something like the "Sheikh Abdul Abdullah Abdul Abdul Abdullah Abdul Abdullah III Arena". Show me the money.

Not old enough to have any memories of cherry, but he,s very much a town fan as was his dad

We will defo finish above leeds this season...not that it matters tbh...just a bit of progress and a top half finish would do for me.

And for me it is and always will be Leeds road
