I am warming up to the idea of having Rooney in mid field.
Rooney brings energy, workrate and a physical presence to the midfield that non of the other midfielders offer. IMO he has all the attributes needed to become become a top class box to box type CM If he can improve his decision making and positioning.
Rooney has made few mistakes which is expected when a player is learning a new role. There was also quite an improvement in last two matches when compared to his first couple of matches as a CM. IMO Rooney is getting better as he adapts to the new role and he could become that dominant CM we are looking for If he continues improving
LVG Is the one who converted Schweinsteiger to a CM. He turned out alright hasnt he? Maybe this could work as well
Thoughts?

Everyone knows my views on Rooney. He's still our best attacker for me (if used correctly)
You don't get to where he has on the club's all time goal scoring charts by not being a top class striker.
Play him there and he will do the business. He always has.
United need to get away from this square pegs / round holes philosophy. It started under Fergie and has continued under Moyes n LVG.

Even more so, when it very clearly is not needed.

Does this mean your faith in LVG is waiting a bit? Already seem macca and others lose patience with LVG.
I'm still on the fence.

Didnt know this such a passionate subject here
I already said Rooney is best at no10 role. For some reason LVG is using him as a CM and he is not the type to change things that easily. Him using rooney as a CM looked like madness at first but after watching last couple of games, there maybe just maybe a method in his madness.
If you look at best box to box CMs in the worlds, Schsweinsteigers, Vidals, yayas, their main abilities are goal scoring, work rate, assisting, physical presence. Rooney already have most of those attributes to a very high standard.
Rooney's major weakness when played as a CM is his decision making and positioning, or lack of discipline. At present Rooney is an above average CM at best but if he can improve his decision making and be more discipline in a CM role he can become a top class CM because he already has most of the attributes required to play a box to box role.
Nobody knows wether he can improve those areas or not. Rooney is a multidimensional footballer with an exceptionally good allround game. him improving on couple of aspects of his game may not be as far fetched as most would think.
I dont think LVG will stop playing him in midfield so we'll see, shant we?

What faith do you refer to Baz?
I had faith in SAF but that never stopped me going apeshit over some of his team selections and playing people out of position.

Rooneys touch is appalling. no way in midfield.
its unbelievable that since the days of keane and scholes we are still struggling to find anyone that can improve our current set up of dire central midfielders anderson fletcher cleverly fellani and a 34 year old carrick. Blind and Herrera would be ok if they were played there with any consistency.
