There may be a simple explanation to this, but I will ask anyway. Why does the transfer window run from July 1st and August 31st? Surely, it would make sense to adjust the window to end before the start of a new season.
This ensures managers have their squad settled before the opening games, they can prepare, train and plan together, and it prevents all this frantic bargaining, speculation and negotiation going on for players well into a new season. Clubs exploit this situation and hike up the fees, leaving many clubs, us included, desperately racing around trying to secure players to improve the squad, but finding asking prices too high, and competition from other clubs. It also stops big clubs unsettling players who are several games into a new season with sudden offers, and greedy agents manipulating otherwise settled players to move after a few games.
What's wrong with a June 1st- July 31st window? All transfers are completed, done and dusted before a new season, and all this frantic activity is prevented.

i couldnt agree more, it makes no sense......but the all powerful media love this because it sells papers and cranks up attention......not that the media have any influence.

I'm looking forward to Wednesday's 'football window'.
When does it start?

I like the January window best. It allows your brainless manager to destroy a decent team by bringing Reda Johnson in

Johnson, I can't believe the red flags weren't up when Plymouth were begging us to take him
Why oh why do we always end up relieveing other clubs of their rubbish, and signing them on 3 year contracts

Problem is that the transfer window applies to all clubs across Europe and different leagues start and finish at different times.
For example, the end of August transfer deadline is pretty much when the Italian and Spanish seasons start.
We could set a different transfer window, but all it would do is penalise our teams in comparison to others in Europe. After 31 July, other European clubs would still be able to buy players from English teams, but English teams wouldn't be able to buy anyone.

I also believe a lot of the player contracts end on June 30th, so they will become free agents from July 1st and this gives them a couple of months to find a new team.
