Our front two.

One of the most frustrating things about LVG's system is that he picks two #9's to play together who IMO will never be a decent pairing. Last night we played one of the worst teams in the league and the only shot on goal that either RVP or Falcao had was the penalty RVP scored.

This article isn't an attack on either player as i'm sure they still have qualities that may work had they been played on their own in front of say, Mata but more of a quest to find out just why LVG is playing two players so unmatched to playing together week after week.

Is it really just as simple as 'they are two world class strikers so it would be silly to have one on the bench'?

If that is the case then i'm afraid that kind of thinking is silly and shows the manager isn't quite the ballsy guy that was promised to us back in July.

Most people on here want Rooney to go back up front and hopefully he will but as long as RVP and Falcao are starting games together we'll never really have a fluid attack. That's the sad thing.

I'd like to see the same team as yesterday with the inclusion of Shaw, Herrera and push rooney further forward.

There is a reason why we loaned him and didn't sign him outright. There were obviously doubts about him.

In hindsight.....it would have been better doing neither and leaving him where he was, but at least we didn't spend £40m on him + wages.

Agree with your team suggestions too. Everyone seems to see it apart from LBG

Hoped for some real explosive stuff from Falcao. Even though he is not a back-to-goal player he has been very disappointing in most aspects of his game. United looked much better with Herrera on,showing for passes and with RVP picking up balls a little deeper actually getting involved.
Sometimes we forget what a good hold up player rvp is,time to move Rooney behind him with Di Maria who was great at times last night. Gutted about Falcao but if Mendes gets someone to pay 45m for him then he is a hypnotist.

Play any one of Rooney, RVP or Falcao up front on their own with a quality and balanced midfield behind them and they will score goals. We're talking about world class centre forwards here. The problem is the system LVG is using doesn't suit any of them so they all struggle.

I disagree Draculencia

I think the formation is an issue but I don't think Falcao would score many more playing as a lone 9 for us. I think his injury has taken 25-30% of his game which is a lot.

Regarding RVP......I just think he's a sulky lazy git at times. Looks like he can't be bothered this season.

players like RVP and Falcao do not become bad players overnight.

Being a striker is so much about confidence.
If youre making runs but not being picked out or the whole build up play around you is slow and your not being provided with service then you'll struggle to score goals.

if your struggling to score goals then your whole game will suffer as confidence drops.

players lose pace, but they dont lose the ability to lose their control as easy, and thats something Falcao and RVP have always had to their games.

I'd put money on the fact that if either RVP or Falcao go before the start of the season, if the team they join is set up right, they will score goals for fun, as they would in this team if they actually played to their strengths.

Neither have blistering pace or run the channels, so because of that, you play 2 wide players to provide service.

not LVG though, he plays with little width and gives Falcao and RVP little chance.

Leaves me scratching my head every time I see RVP, Falcao and Rooney in the same line up. It is like we are contractually obliged to play Falcao.

Totally agree. Put Falcao, RVP or Rooney up front for Chelsea and they'll score goals for fun with the service they'll get from Fabregas, Hazard etc.

The sad thing about LvG is that his most successful spell in management came from playing a bog standard 4-4-1-1

Falcao and RvP still have it, they just do not have the supply from midfield

More to it than just supply.

They take up each other positions, they are not making the right runs, neither are attacking the near post, Falcao has lost a yard of pace (at least).

Falcao for Chelsea would not be pulling up any trees, imo... RvP would still be scoring plenty.
