I’ll Be Back.......

We all know the saying, and we know what movie it comes from, but how realistic could this scenario, one day, become??

Looking at humans, how did we become the dominant race on Earth? By learning, by storing knowledge, categorizing it, and learning, adapting etc.....Think of your brain as a computer processor, all calls that your body makes go through it. Without it we would be nothing. Now add memory, if humans did not have the ability to remember, learn, store information and use it when needed, again we would be nothing.

Looking at the advances in technology, we have computers which can store a HUGE amount of information, which is increasing month by month. Now add to the processing power which can process information quicker than the human mind. (eg. that poker playing computer which has “learned" how to play and can handle and play 16 trillion poker hands per second!)

Throw AI into the mix, and sooner or later that intelligence could potentially grow way beyond our control (personally I think it is inevitable). With the precision and higher intelligence, technology could create machines way beyond way anything humans could....and they would learn that they do not want to be switched off.

Bill Gates was recently quoted saying he was shocked people were not concerned by this. Regardless of what one may think of Mr.Gates, he has had a huge impact on the way the world uses computers.
Just imagine if Mankind had an enemy which had overall control of technology. Its war, I feel, we could not possibly win.

Do you think this is a realistic scenario...or a load of hogwash?

Nature of that intelligence??

Got assuming we'd always control it. We won't. Unless we change our ways, we could create our own downfall

Let's agree to disagree.

Enjoyed the thread though. Cheers lads

Person of interest might be of interest to those involved in this discussion. Although very much the early stages of such a 'machine'

Deepmind AI is the sort of thing that could put us in danger.

Ambition and fear.

If computers experienced either of these emotions then we could be in trouble, but they don't and they can't learn them.
