Written about Van Gaal around this time of the season at Bayern. Went on to do quite well there didn't he?!

People have to stop being so short sighted and realise were still 3rd and almost in quarter finals of the FA Cup.

If we were in a lower league position then the ridiculous reaction might be more justified. Give him a season or so and it will come good.

That's all I got to say about that... (Forrest Gump)

Let the onslaught begin! : )

Chelsea's strongest team with an average age of 26.5 which also has some very good squad players which they will only likely to improve on in the summer. The fact their best team is so easy to name shows how organised and balanced they are, add their brilliant manager and they are in a incredibly strong position to be there or there abouts for the next 2/3 years (the persiod LVG is likely to stay at the club).

To overtake them will take a lot of work.

But it's one thing getting the players, it's a whole other thing implementing them into a working system. Something LVG has yet to prove he can do with us.

I'm not saying he can't, I'm just saying it will be very hard to do.

Cahill is part of one of the best CB pairings in club football. IvanovicIs the best defender in the league and has not yet turned 30.

Chelsea need a bench?

How about zouma, Filipe, Milkel, cuardado, remy,

That's the thing, if it's just a case of us needing 3/4 players (arguably more) then why can you not also apply to that to Chelsea and City who need less first teamers and more squad players.

This summer it would be great if we would bring in at least 1 quality CB (ideally 2), a top RB, a top winger and possibly a quality midfielder or striker depending on what is needed. Many players will also need to be sold and balance might need to be fixed through the addition of 1 or 2 squad players being brought in.

Chelsea on the other hand only really need to look at bringing in a quality CB and striker and even they aren't essential for next season to be starters, more a case of filling the squad.

Chelsea just need minor tweaks, we need major surgery and to find a system that will work which will take a long time.

I totally disagree about Chelsea. Everything is in place for them to carry on wining trophies. They have so many good players on loan..some of whom are very talented . Zouma looks the part and probably they will buy another young CB, maybe Varane. They won the FA youth cup and U21 league and as Maureen says several of those will go on to make it.
Personally think we are a long way behind Chelsea and City atm. The buys are a mixture now of Moyes and LVgs and a further change may mean that nay new manager wants his own players. Think we stick with him and give him the time, providing he gets top 4

BTW, whoever was/is our manager, the task of overtaking Chelsea and City is a very tough one.

Top 4 is all well and good at the end of the season but that doesn't mean vast improvements will automatically happen on the pitch. We still have so many issues that need fixing and so far I don't see much to suggest LVG can sort them out.

Those saying LVG was a failure at Bayern are either trying to rewrite history or don't have a clue.

As the op says, there were huge question marks over him in his first season, but eventually won the league title and made the CL final. I've brought this up in the past as I feel his time there is looked upon negatively because of how he left.

He had to give the squad an overhaul and he built the backbone of the squad you see today. He signed Robben, played Muller, moved Schweinseiger to defensive midfield.

We haven't signed LVG to manage us for a decade, but if he leaves us in 2/3 years with a squad and playing style similar to Bayerns (pre-Pep) I'll be very happy.

I don't think most feel he failed at Bayern but succeeding there was probably an easier job seeing how powerful Bayern are domestically, we on the other had have a far bigger threat domestically.

He was also only there for just under 2 seasons with his titles coming in the first so you could argue his success there was quite quick, not the longer term we hope to see in the next season or 2. He helped put in place some important elements at Bayern such as bringing through their youth but not all the success of their youth academy should be laid on LVG, I'm sure many of these players would have had a good chance of breaking through the first team irrelevant of LVG although he of course deserves credit for doing so.

LVG was an important part of rebuilding Bayern's recent success but he wasn't the only reason.

The United job is a more complex one, we do not dominate the domestic league the way Bayern do, I'm not sure we have the quality in our youth set up as he did at Bayern and people are expecting improvements in our 2nd and possibly 3rd season with LVG, something he didn't do with Bayern.

He is no doubt a legendary coach who has achieved great things, but he has also failed. Whether he will succeed with us or not is still unknown.
