FT Tottenham 1 Fiorentina 1

Europa League
Venue: White Hart Lane
Date: Thursday 19 February

Kick-off: 20:05

Match Preview

Manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is not worried by Tottenham's workload as they prepare to face Fiorentina in the last 32 of the Europa League in the first of six games in 17 days.

Spurs' schedule also includes the return leg against Fiorentina, the League Cup final against Chelsea on 1 March and three Premier League games.

Pochettino said: "It's a good sign we are in all competitions. I am happy.

"All the squad are fit and we are in a very good way."

Tottenham's Europa League tie against the Italian club at White Hart Lane on Thursday night will be their 42nd match of the season.

Pochettino, who has no injury concerns, added: "It's important to manage the squad and always analyse after the games each case and each player and after to be clever and select the best player to play in each game."

Like Tottenham - who are sixth in the Premier League - Fiorentina are challenging for a place in next season's Champions League and are currently fourth in Serie A.

Vincenzo Montella's squad, which includes on-loan Manchester City defender Micah Richards, is unbeaten in its last eight games and has also reached the last four of the Coppa Italia

We had the team to beat that crowd and we didn't use it. Now we either go over there with a full team and reduce our chance of winning the cup final, or we write it off and go all out for the final.

Either option isn't ideal. We had to go for it tonight but for whatever reason poch gambled and it didn't pay off.

Sandy I'm not usually one for rotation but sometimes I can understand it. Tonight tho no way they've just had a break ffs

Poch did exactly the right thing with team selection.

Sunday's match v West Ham is massive.. Not just who we are playing, but 3 points needed for champions league qualification.

Though I would have started Stambouli ahead of the awful Paulinho.

Chadli is miles better than Lamela,so I would have rested Chadli.

Let's face it..we are never going to win the Europa league, carling cup & get 4th.No way!

Hi guys, missed the game, I am in LA visiting my daughter. From what I can gather we were good for about the first half hour & not so good in the second half, would sum it up?

Not sure how I feel about Europa, think this was something like our 41st or 42nd game of the season.

Sandy, stop moaning, we are not out yet!

I would certainly like to see us beat Chelsea on the 1st March, which incidentally is my 65th!!!

I also want us to thump West Ham on Sunday, might not get to see that either as it will be 2am here!

Pleased to see Roberto scoring tonight, might do his confidence good, was it a good goal?

Hi Genius

Yes your right buddy, the first half an hour we absolutely dominated the game, chance after chance and we were dominating them all over the park, we were playing with the same aggression and intensity that we showed against Chelsea and Arsenal. We scored from a corner, Soldado found space towards the edge of the box and hit a sweet volley, was a cracking goal.

We spurned several chances to kill the game off and after about half an hour, down by the corner flag, soldado tackled and fouled a Fiorentina player from behind resulting in a free kick. It was a good strike at goal with hugo could only parry into the path of a Fiorentina player whoscored through Walkers legs - bottom corner.

That was the turning point, the game became even although Chadli was so unlucky to hit the bar just before half time.

2nd half we just ran out of ideas, Fiorentina became confident and Poch made the wrong substitutions.

So dissapointing considering how well we started the game.

Don't cry...............thanks.

The one thing we should all remember is that this is Poch's first season & we have come a long way under him.
At the begging Nanking of the season we would have taken being in a cup final, top 6, still in Europa, thrashed Chelsea & comfortably beat Arsenal at home, wouldn't we?

Flipping heck, begging Nanking, predictive text!

Should be beginning of season!

I think we can score goals in Italy, just a question of whether our sieve like defence can keep a clean sheet or not
