I am not looking for an argument.
I suggested that when Gerard announced that he was off, he was putting himself before the club. Not for leaving, but the way he announced it etc, it was all about Stevie G. I also suggested that I thought he had an issue with Brendan for not picking him 1st Choice.
I think last nights comments, which he knew would cause and issue, were deliberately made.
My link for the previous shows how you guys shot me down.
Just wondered if any of you have had a change of heart?

TWO,
No problem, I had no idea until someone posted a link on here about it.
In can understand a team fighting for 4th being nervous about it.

although I do feel that this sometimes blinds them to what others can see

That was a decent post, if you hadn’t included a daft comment like that.
All football fans are one-eyed, it’s all part of the package.
People who try to claim that “ours are more grounded and realistic than most” or “yours are more one-eyed than ours” are just being a bit daft.
No they’re not, the evidence is plain to see on this site (if you hadn’t been blinded to what others can see)

Wessie,
I did add the bit about being passionate. I don't want to ruin this post by making suggestions of bias, but surely with hindsight you can think of a few occasions when you have backed the player or team, but now think......well actually!

I think that's said about us in the stadium, because that's just the fan-culture that's developed there over many, many years of congregating in the same place.
I'm not sure it's true on sites like this, I've seen plenty of meltdowns and bed-wetting from other clubs' fans, which I imagine must be driven by some kind of passion.
I would think that the makeup of a fanbase on a site like this is too diverse, and too physically remote, to develop any kind of prolonged common culture. (Though it does happen temporarily: I think the Arsenal board on here is different in tone from how it was in the latter stages of 606, for example)
You don't think that implying that "our fans are less one-eyed than another club's fans" is demonstrating the exact opposite?
But you seem a decent poster, I don't want to ruin your thread with an argument , either

OP
I think that's a stretch to think he said it knowingly to create problems. To my mind that's like a conspiracy theory.

Wessie,
Be careful, this is in danger of being a perfectly reasonable discussion.
On my way home from work, I listen to TALKsport (I know) and this was the topic. I was very surprised to hear Liverpool accents actually talking negatively about Gerrard.
They were not Everton supporters and actually mirrored some of the above comments.
He hasn't done it yet, but if he does something like this too many more times, he could lose a big group of support.

Mamba,
I would use the word 'calculated'.

You're basing this on the kind of opinions voiced on radio chat shows and social media?
Not going to happen, the guy's a fking legend, right up there with Kenny.
People will wet their pants over nothing on radio chat shows and social media, and the world will keep on turning. What he said will have no effect on anything, it's feck all.
I've heard Liverpool fans criticising him many times before, that's not particularly momentous, either.

Whatever word you use I can only see it as tin foil hat stuff. Nobody knew the penalty incident would take place. Are you saying he witnessed the incident then thought 'yeah, I'll just say something fishy about that incident. That should stir things up'. I think it's ridiculous.
