Torres from 08/09 or Suarez now...
im not sure.
imho, torres seemed the better finisher and was very composed. fernando could score almost any type of goal. 1 on 1's, headers, volleys outside the box, inside the box, piledrivers etc. he is also plays a very basic game. he didnt usually do step overs or any of the fancy stuff. he just got the job done and did it very well.
suarez seems to be faster. i believe if those 2 were to have a race with a ball at their feet (with torres in 08/09 bare in mind) suarez would still win. although i have to admit, torres seemed to have more control. this doesnt mean speed can be a good thing. suarez, unlike torres, does like to add a bit of trickery to his game and out of the 2, suarez seems to be able to play assists and cross better.
with all this on the table, who do you honestly think is better? torres 3 years ago, or suarez in the present?
(this is posted on both the liverpool and chelsea board so i dont want any 'obsessed' remarks).

torres:
07/08 season played 46 games scored 33 goals,
08/09 season played 38 games scored 17 goals,
09/10 season played 32 games scored 22 goals
Why did the OP choose the 08/09 season? Anyway you choose to compare that season when torres was an established player in the team.
Suarez:
10/11 season played 13 games scored 4 goals,
11/12 season played 3 games scored 3 goals.
As Suarez has only played 16 games for Liverpool maybe a bit early for comparisons. As for those saying Torres was the best striker in the world in 08/09,
torres total appearances for Spain 87 goals 27
08/09 International appearances 17 goals 5
David Villa total appearances for Spain 76 goals 47
08/09 International appearances 14 goals 13
08/09 season for Valencia played 40 games goals 30
In my view since torres has moved to chelsea it has proved what was evident in his International career. He is clearly a lone striker, Spain's formation don't really suit him, and at chelsea I thought he would form a great partnership with either drogba/anelka or both, but he hasn't no matter what formation chelsea have used. So in reply to the question who is the better? its simple, Suarez, a more versatile player, I'm confident he will score more than torres 08/09 tally of 17 goals and will provide a lot more assists for his team mates.
Finally in response to bloodred - Furthermore, most strikers tend not to constantly close down defenders - if I was a manager i'd want my striker to be saving his energy.
Have you ever heard of Ian Rush or Mark Hughes, Henry or Cantona, even more recently Rooney, all players that challenge(d) defenders and tracked back. As someone once said 'the attackers are the first line of defence',

For me 2009 was a turning point in Torres' career at LFC. from the moment of his injury until he left this January, he simply wasn't the same player. Suarez is the man. As a fan, I want to see all of the players try their best for each 90 minutes. Torres, after 2009 just didn't do that. Luis, esp against Exeter, covered every blade of grass. Answer to the question? Suarez by a country mile. JimmyTheRed
