OK, now that the dust has settled

on yesterdays Final, in which I thought Spurs fully played their part, and their were some excellent performances, particularly from the younger players in what was their first Cup Final.

The only thing concerning me is that Spurs seemed to have adopted a losing mentality in the real big cup games in the past 20 years or so. They have lost their last two league cup finals, coupled with losing a record six FA Cup semi-finals in a row, which is well below par for what our club used to be. I am of course old enough to remember when Spurs getting to a semi-final, guaranteed a final, and an almost certain winning one.

I think they have to get their mojo back, for not only competing, which they did admirably yesterday, but actually going on to finish the job. Hopefully with all the young players now coming through, they will be in many more semis and finals in the coming years, and will once again rise to the occasion and put some trophies in the cabinet at WHL.

Other than that is business as usual at WHL midweek against Swansea, and the three points would be very welcome.

Is this really true though Sandy?

Unlucky yesterday, as you say young side with lots of time to develop under a good young manager

Yup, I saw them reach five FA Cup Semi finals in a row, win them all, and win all five FA Cup Finals, two European semis in a row, win both and win the finals, reach two league cups in a row, win both, and win both Finals. I make that 9 semi finals successfully won, followed by winning nine finals. Pretty impressive. One or two later setbacks, but nothing like the past 20 years.

Fair enough didn't realize it went that well for you then, fair play

What were the European trophies? The old cup winners cup?

Sandy, in those days there was no major money in the game. I would like to agree but I think it's more about quality.

Nowadays City, Chelsea would probably beat us more times than not. Not because of our mentality but simply because they have bought more quality.

It doesnt help we mis-spent our cash on Soldado an Lamela. But no one really thought they would deb this bad.

Imagine if we had signed a striker more suited to our style of play (Bony or Benteke) for £25m including Remy (£7M) and Schurlle (£18) instead of one Lamela (£30) and one Soldado (£26m).

We would have spare change (£6m) and better suited players for Poch's system with more quality.

I think this summer should be good if Levy backs Poch in transfer market. I have more confidence in our new scouting set up finding 'affordable' quality to take us to a higher level of play.

To be fair I bet you were one of those supporters like me that was jumping through hoops when Spurs signed Soldado and Lamela.

Benteke, Bony, Schurle or Remy would in all probability also be flops if they came to Spurs. I don`t frankly rate any of them that highly, maybe Bony can be a good player, but he has frankly jumped ship from a club where he was going to be playing regularly to just sitting on a bench earning loads of money in my opinion. Is he really what Spurs want?

Remy has one good game in 15 or so, same with Schurle, and Benteke has not really been doing the business for a while now.

===================

I think this is half the problem on here, we make a signing that nobody really knows much about, apart from what they may read on Wiki or seen YouTube clips of, and all of a sudden they are better than what he have.

I always maintain I judge from what I see - not by price tag or reputation in another league, and it has been clear to me from practically day one (certainly after half a season or so) that neither Lamela or Soldado were better than we already had.

You could even stretch this Chiriches and Fazio but I don’t want to get into another debate about CBs with sandy.
