The Greatest Spurs Legends of them all

This is a very difficult one for me & I would think Sandy too......................................


Having watched Spurs since October 1958, I cannot really comment on the players who graced the club previously to that date. However we did have some notable players in the 50's, including Alf Ramsey, Len Duquemin, Ted Ditchburn,Eddie Bailey,Tony Marchi, Ron Burgess & Bill Nicholson. They all played in the famous "Push & Run" Team that won the Division 1 title in 1951 and which was really the blueprint for our successes in the 60's.

However my choices for TRUE legends at WHL, would include the following:

To knock this down to 3 is very difficult, however I have to nominate Danny Blanchflower, Dave Mackay & of course Jimmy Greaves as the players in my opinion deserve the accolade as our greatest legends at Spurs.

We both are of a similar age, and I also started watching Spurs as you know in 1958, and I agree with you 100 per cent on your list, probably add

Martin Chivers
Paul Gascoigne

to the list of great players you have named


The top three though, Blanchflower, Greaves and Mackay I am not going to argue about.


I always think it a shame, some of our younger supporters never ever saw any of our truly great players.

Like you I never saw the push and run team of the late 40s, early 50s, but my Dad said Burgess, Ditchburn, Duqemin, Ramsey were very special players. I also heard from my Grandad that Jimmy Dimmock was a bit special in the 1920s.

I remember Chivers being fantastic for about 18 months to 2 years in the early 70's.I think during that short period he was Drogba like.

Sandy......................................Forgot Gascoigne, and I agree about Chivers, he was a beast of a centre forward & virtually unstoppable in the air!

Alas, I can't really remember the Greaves and Chivers era but when I think back at some of the players that I have been fortunate enough to see play for Spurs it's still a fairly impressive list.

Clive Allen.
Klinsman.
Modric.
Bale.
VdV.
Roberts.
Berbatov.
Ardiles.
Ledley King.

Not a bad list but sadly there's been quite a few Rebrovs along the way too.

Who were Saul, Beal and Medwin ??

Genius you have it right on mate watched them from 60 onwards.

Sol Campbell and Pat Jennings.

In Bill Nichs book he rates Mackay as the best Spurs player he managed. Puts him top of that list for me
