Ever had that conversation with friends "what would you do if you woke up to the zombie apocalypse?"? Or have you ever wanted to play a game that captures the reality of being in the Walking Dead? Look no further. Project Zomboid is BY FAR the greatest zombie survival simulation out there.
Scavenge
Farm
Hunt
Build (safe house or weapons)
Fish
Die. And you will die. From zombies or maybe even standing out in the rain for too long and catching a cold that turns into a fever.
Its an isometric sim available now that is too much fun. Addicting. The depth of this game is unreal and its still in beta. The thing that makes this too good to pass up is the ability to have people join you in an ongoing world. Friends(private server) or strangers.
In reality there are too many things to mention. I suggest trying out the free demo on Steam. Get a couple of friends together and watch yourselves die over and over. It never gets old.

So what do generally play? Im a big fan of turn based 4x games. Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion I can do as far as RTS but i like taking my time and also dont usually have consecutive hours I can sit down and play

We recently finished half life 2 synergy. We are quarter way through left 4 dead, but not played it in a few months.
I like RTS games, but can't sell Admin2 on the "Rome " games

Just got the 'new' X-COM game for XB360 (after losing what must be YEARS of my life to the original). Anyone played it?

Hard-core Sandbox Zombie Survival Game with a focus on realistic survival.
Online multiplayer survival with persistent player run servers.
Full line of sight system and real-time lighting, sound and visibility mechanics. Hide in the shadows, keep quiet and keep the lights off at night, or at least hang sheets over the windows.
Vast and growing map (loosely based on a real world location) for you to explore, loot and set up your fortress. Check out Blindcoder’s map project: http://pzmap.crash-override.net/
Use tools and items to craft weapons, barricade and cook. You can even build zombie proof forts by chopping trees, sawing wood and scavenging supplies.
Deal with depression, boredom, hunger, thirst and illness while trying to survive.
Day turns to night. The electricity falters. Hordes migrate. Winter draws in. Society is in freefall.
Farming, trapping, fishing, carpentry, character customization, skills and perks that develop based on what you do in-game.
Hundreds of zombies with swarm mechanics and in-depth visual and hearing systems.
Proper zombies that don’t run. (Unless you tell them to in the sandbox menu).
A ton of amazing atmospheric music tracks by the prodigy that is Zach Beever.
