I'm mates with Adam Watts' brother. Adam Watts is the bald linesman, he's stopped now though.

He was on £600 a match. Now he monitors that officials from in the stands, a bit like a secret shopper.... Gets over £1000 a game.

He can't run as fast as this dude though.

Most fans monitor officials from the stands, only they have to pay for the privilege.

Most fans get their interpretation wrong though, at least in the stadium.

Most refs do to, both red cards were a joke yesterday.

As for officials pay, I've not a clue about linesman but I know referees are on about £100k a year. It's not a bad wage by any means.

They get some big decisions wrong I agree. Countless times you hear the crowd berate an offside decision or a foul given the opposite way to the way they perceive it and, watching it back, the officials get it right though. I'm guilty of it myself when I go to games.

Am I the only one who has some sympathy for the referee regarding both red cards in the Villa WBA game?

They are told to take action against two-footed challenges and stamps, and you can definitely see how he interpreted the WBA one as exactly that.

As for the Villa one, sorry but it looked like a clear case of 'simulation' to me. The player's nowhere near him but he seems to make sure he gets both his feet off the floor and positions himself so that he won't land on his feet.

I was bemused by Lawro's reaction to both, especially the first. He claimed that you're taught NOT to slide in, because you will get hurt if you do? Pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what I was taught about tackling.
