Afridi, 100% agree on the mentality.. I mentioned earlier its all about approach.. England's best periods have been under positive captains and coaches.. Fletcher/Hussein/Vaughan..
Flower was quite determined character.. And Strauss was very underated has a captain..
In bygone days you had Botham and Willis and even Gower.. They were winners..
First thing Moores will do when he gets back to England is get outa dvd watch the matchs again and look at the stats.
Just bloody win..

Yeah I posted about belief and mental approach earlier on another post...
Winning attitude is seriously lacking...we don't think we're good enough. ..so we aren't. .

For me,Paul Collingwood should be offered the position of 20/20 and one day coach.A forward thinking proactive captain and most of all a winner.Moores should coach the test team only.Players like Stokes/Hayles/Buttler are the future types in this format as i also believe Jim allenby should be given a chance,an improvement on Bopara as an allrounder and senior pro on the field.I still believe Morgan can be a good captain and a valuable batsman for england in 20/20 and one day formats and is shot of any confidence at present.Moores might be popular but i feel he lacks the dynamic and looking outside the box approach. All too predictable for me.Matthew Maynard would also be a good coach in both formats although hes just started at Somerset.

The England team is stuffed. This may be partly due to people like me who see test cricket as a pinnacle to the exclusion of everything else. As India treats tests with contempt we do the same with ODIs. Unfortunately we are not very good at tests at the moment.
The team seems to be run along the lines of a British public school. There is a head boy (Strauss) and a number of prefects (Swann, Prior, Broad, Anderson). Everyone must bow to these. KP wanted to be head boy as well but he tried and messed up. He is not the answer.
The analogy dies as in school life, the actors move on. Strauss left but the rest were still there. A new head boy was appointed because quite frankly, the prefects were not up to the job. But they still lingered with occasional good results (and some shockers). This undermined the skipper who quite frankly, wasn't up to the job of captaining the one day team.
The younger players find themselves trying to obey the head boy while the prefects drift off and do their own thing. Poor old Morgan is sold what in rugger terms is a hospital pass – the moment he received the ball, two 120kg forwards moved in to crunch him.
The contract system worked for a while, it isn't working anymore. Stop picking players based on past glories and instead pick the best team. If someone is out of form (Broad) get rid. If someone's style is not suited (Ando anywhere outside Britain) the same. Make players fight for positions and get a core of 20-30 blokes who can jump in at any time. The same goes for all forms of the game.
I still think the upper echelons are stuffed but the players need to be sorted out first. Adopt the same principles as Lehman. Work out how the opposition play and try to stop them. Exercise controlled aggression. Learn to let the bat & ball do the talking. Sledging is only a part of the battle.
Cheers

The problem with the England one day team is that most of the players hardly ever play any actual one day games for there counties. Its either England or nothing as they are being rested for some daft reason.
Anderson and Broad need to be gone from the one day team. Both are past it.
Got to let these guys play IPL is they get a chance Imo that's the only way they will improve our one day team.
Ali is a good player but at the end of the day hes not an opener. Hes a pinch hitter there to score quick runs. Them days of pinch hitters are well and truly done.

Gavaskar hit the nail on the head with an interview with NDTV,l: 'I think it would have been easier playing England in the quarters!
'Look at their form. England have won only one game, they are a nothing side.
'Every time there is a World Cup (in) football, everyone speaks how they will do this and that but at the end of the day, they are just an overrated team both cricket-wise and football-wise.'

Another case where England don't get it. The system ain't working. Change it but no, we just bury our heads further in the sand

He bowled ok last match. I'd give him this summer seeing as he is just coming back from a pretty big operation for a fast bowler. The problem is, there is nobody breathing down his neck. If Jordan and Plunkett are the best we have, then it's no wonder Broad keeps his place.

Yeah fair point....he's certainly not in there on batting performances of late...time was you could rely on him for a quick 25-30 at 8...can't even justify the No 10 spot now
