Bring Bale Back to the Lane

I know some of you think Bale treated us badly (I actually don't) but it don't look like it is going to well for him now at Real Madrid and I think Bale could be off in the summer and most likely the Premier League.

Personally I would hate to see him back in a Man U, Man City, Chelsea shirt. Now it's a long shot but IF we qualified for the CL next season could we and would we want to tempt Bale back to the Lane. He was clearly loved by the fans and enjoyed his football with us. The question some of you might have is that could we afford him, well I am pretty sure Madrid still owe us for his transfer. Lets say for the sake of it they have paid us £40m and still owe us £40m. We could say to Madrid we will wipe the debt just give us Bale back, wages are another factor but for such a special player we should be able to bend the rules especially if we are in the CL with all that extra revenue.

Anyway I want Bale back he is a special player and had one of the best seasons I have seen from a Spurs player in his last season with us, he was simply a beast.

Must be like leaving a beautiful young blonde,to go back to the local minger.

Must be why Fabregas joined Chelsea, didn't want to make the same mistake

Actually he just returned to a different local minger enhanced by plastic surgery from a rich sugar daddy.

Just me, Bill,

Cannot understand fans who moan about players leaving a club for greater financial gain.

We would all do it in our careers if it was on offer

==========================

I don’t think we can compare a decision a footballer makes about their career to one we’d make in our own lives. I don’t know about you but whenever I reach a goal, I do not have the urge to run up and down my work place with my shirt off. Football is different to our careers.

I’d move to another company in a heartbeat if they offered me £5k more but if I were a footballer, particularly in my early years, I’d like to think I’d only accept more money if the opportunities were better – not just because of the pound notes.

An example is, if I were say, Charlie Austin, and Burnley were offering me £50k pw and Liverpool just £30k pw, I’d like to think I’d choose Liverpool.

Chicken
I think you are looking at this purely from a fan's point of view and that is usually though rose coloured glasses.

We all dream of what it would be like to play for our favourite team, to run out in front of 40,000 adoring fans and score a hat trick for them and see our name in the paper the next day. And most of us would also dream of doing that for nothing.

But that is not the real world. Footballers are no different to you or I in the workplace. We would go where we could get the most financial reward or most would. Football players only have a certain time at the game, and only a certain time at the top.

Anyone offered £50k a week at one club would take it over an offer of £30k a week at another. And if, in your analogy it was Burnley and Liverpool I would think that Liverpool were a bit up themselves if they thought they could get me on the cheap just because they have a bigger kudos in the game.

If they are in a greater number of competitions and expect me to play more and more games, with the club getting bigger rewards because they are a bigger club then I would definitely want more money not less. Football agents recognise this even if the average fan does not.

And how many of us, if asked to go to a club where playing time was restricted because of the quality in the squad, and the likelihood was that you would be on the bench more often than not would say no, even if the wages were astronomical. "No", would be our reply, "I want to play week in week out."

But many a professional footballer would not think like that. They want the money. Many big stars went to City before they started getting the results and getting into the big time. City needed this thinking in order to make progress so they offered big stars big money even though they were not in major competitions and could not even fill their stadium week after week. They still can't now.

Players only have a few years at the top. They take every opportunity to earn as much as they can from the game and I do not blame them. Whatever we think, as fans, we would not think the same if we were actually in the position of a player.

And as for your analogy about taking your shirt off and running round the office when you reach a "goal" is a bit extreme. But how often, when something good comes off at work, have you punched the air and said "yessss......." out loud. I know I have, or did when I worked. It is the same feeling.

Absolutely no chance of getting Bale again unless we part exchanged him with one of our top players like Kane, or Lloris.

Never buy back, it doesn't work. Remember Robbie Keane? No good the second time.

Just me, Bill,

I tried to get away from making it sound like I was talking from a fan’s point of view, which is why I used 2 totally unrelated teams such as Burnley an Liverpool. I know what you mean with this point though as there is probably some fans on our board who would claim they would never play for Arsenal, whereas I openly admit I would if it meant I could play football for a living – and a good one.

However, I would like to think that if I was a young player I would make decisions based on the longevity of my career, making the most of it, achieving the most I could as a player, and not move just for a few extra grand per week.

I appreciate though that the lure of money is often the devil and your Man City example was a good one.

I think this debate between us started because I said I would never begrudge anyone within football wanting to progress in their career even if it means leaving my supported club THFC. I would like to reiterate this point, which includes Carrick moving to United, Harry wanting the England manager’s job, and Bale wanting to move to Real Madrid. I have no problem with any of these what so ever.

It would disappoint me though if a player wanted to move say, from Spurs to West Ham, just because they have offered an extra £10k pw. To us £10k is an awful lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that much of a sacrifice to a footballer. Obviously if a player is moving to a lesser club to get first time football – then this is a different scenario altogether.

As for the taking my shirt off comment, that was just a little joke to lighten to the mood of my post – I didn’t genuinely think that was relative to the debate in question. Sliding on my knees? Yes, taking me shirt off? Definitely not….
