Maybe Sick Boy is right, LVG had it but is now old and past it.

Interesting article. Kind of sits on the fence and gives boosts to both arguments about him.
The point about him becoming a lot more pragmatic in his old age might explain a lot about the turgid formula we've seen this season.
I guess the real question is.. will he get more bold in his old age? Will we see the younger version of Van Gaal?

Surely it's only natural to become less bold in your old age, you're winding down your career, same thing happened to Ferguson. Maybe many including myself foolishly believed we would see an LVG of old at United when the truth is we are seeing an old man past his peak who through experience has decided to be less risky and more pragmatic, the problem is at the top I feel you need to be a risk taker to succeed.
We saw last night with the 2 CL games the different results you get from being cautious or being bold.

Exactly. That's why when people try to rationalise their faith in LVG by saying 'look at his CV', I just see a guy whose best stuff came 20 years ago and who has gotten staler as he's gotten older. He's still got something about him and I don't think he's awful. But I do think he's the wrong fit for United and has completely gotten this season wrong to the point where we go into our biggest games of the season with zero form and relying on other teams having bad days just to get points.

I agree.

Maybe Renton was in the stands and shot Valencia in the butt which led to the backpass?

I always find that Jonathon Wilson's comments align with my own opinions. Always two months after though, maybe I'm in the wrong job...
I think that's a great article.

Fascinating article.
I often wonder whether any effort was ever made to get Guardiola to replace SAF, as he was off that last year.
Hey ho, can't turn back the clock.
