Last year one of the excuses for the dismal performance of last season was that no planning was started for the new season until the end of the play-off final, which left the team no time to gel (although they never did).
One year on and planning for next season should of started two weeks before the end of the season, due to relegation. But now nearly two weeks after the leagues one and two play off finals, and a new manager has only recently been appointed with no players coming in and only departures.
Paolo di Canio has now gone back (again) to Italy with no new players coming until next week according to the adver. So now planing for next season will start possibly later than the last?
Bristol Rovers have only had Paul Buckle for about a week and yet they have signed three players I believe? And some good ones at that. Poxford and Creepy Crawley have signed a shed load of players. As much as it pains me to say the Pox are putting together quite a good team. But Crawley are yet again trying to buy their way out of the league with their fat crook of a manager.
Back on topic, I thought the board had learnt from their mistakes? After the appalling appointments of Hart and Malpas, the board had a great chance to rectify their mistake and appoint an experienced manager to get us out of the basement (i.e George Burley), yet they go with a complete risk of Paolo di Canio? I think, as stfc1879 said on a previous article, Paolo was appointed only in terms of money, to bring in media sales and boost season ticket and merchandise sales. Key players are still being sold (Cuthbert), with Douglas looking increasingly more likely that he is going to leave.
The board really need to hurry up with planning for next season, we're are already falling behind the other teams and I can see another dismal campaign again at this rate.
Sorry for the long post, I didn't expect it to drag on this much.
Hurry Up

Retep,
I agree with most of what you say.
Last year we nearly did it, then got rid of key players. Even so, pre-season went well, including the junket to Austria. But, Wilson got into a spending mood at the last minute, signed the wrong players &, to justify his actions, put them into the team at the last minute.
The team, even without the sold off players, performed well pre-season, enough to give us a base to work on.
Wilson changed it & we never recovered.
Now, we have to see what players are still with us & work around them. That might mean we have to let things settle for a bit. Then look at where we need new players.
I don't want to go back to the Wilson school of thought where, if he thought that a player was a bargain, he would buy him, wherever or not he would fit in.
We have time to sort it. The manager is paid to do it.
If he doesn't......
