I have been reading the comments of Barry Fry today where he mentions Palace are interested in Dagenhams Danny Green (a player he is hoping to secure himself). A winger who has done well in the lower leagues over the past two seasons. A quick look at wiki will show you he has managed 98 games in the past two seasons chipping in with 27 goals and 25 assists.
Has anyone seen anything of him recently?
This will be the 3rd winger we have been linked with since the end of the season, the other two being Scottish players playing in the SPL. It would seem Dougie is keen on bringing in some natural wingers which I feel we haven't had at the club for a couple of years now.
Recently we have made use of central midfielders like Danns and Ambrose out wide. I for one have missed the presence of a speedy winger and Im hoping whoever Dougie does bring in can bring back the flair we have missed since recent players like Sinclair, McAnuff and Routledge not to mention Palace favourites such as Salako, Lombardo and Hilaire (there have been plenty more I know).
What do others think about the thought of some natural wingers on their way to Palace and do you feel this could mean a change in tactics for the coming season?
Palace Interested in Green

Yes well scannell can play there, just like danns and ambrose can, but they are not natural wingers and they lack the right mentality. I think that its the end product that you miss when you don't use natural wingers, decent players can always stand in but you won't get the best out of them when you play them out of position.
As for cadogan as a first team player? Im not sure he is ready but certainly shows promise.

When i talk about mentality i mean having that instinct to get to the byline, put in the right crosses, and staying out wide so that they are available when playing the ball out of defense. Using centre mids or less prolific strikers tends to bring tactical problems.

I must say I agree with Hudson. It seems to be that Danns and Ambrose are best in the centre of midfield or sitting behind a lone striker or pair of strikers.
I think Scannell should now be given the chance to play as a centre-forward, where he will score goals.
That leaves room for pacy wingers to come in. With this interest though, should we be worried that Clyne, a typical attacking defender who pushes up the wing, is on his way out of the club as feared?
If so, it would seem unfortunate, not least because I think he is being featured on billboards in the season ticket advertising drive!

I think there will always be a risk of losing clyne from now on. He has personally achieved a lot with the club already. Youth player of the year followed up with player of the year not to mention being ever present last season.
That being said i don't see wingers on the menu being a cause for concern regarding clyne. Im more inclined to think its just an area dougie wants to improve on and that sits well with me.

I'm not sure, but I think I read that Dougie wants to try a diamond formation...? Would make sense to me as we do not have any natural wingers in the squad now, except from Cadogan.
A diamond formation might also be the only chance to play Owen Garvan to his strenghts?!
BTW: Good to see the site slowly come to life!

In that formation, I would have Marrow as the DMF, with Danns and Ambrose competing for the AMF position.
You can afford to have two central midfielders (Danns / Ambrose and KG) behind the AMF without wingers in that formation, as you get Clyne to get forward with additional cover from the DMF.
You could start with Scannell and Murrey up front, with Zaha and Sekajja on the bench.
We need to strengthen the squad for a long season, certainly, but there is real potential here

We have to keep all our players 1st.
We have some very good youngsters and hopefully the experience of last season will help them for this coming season (physically & mentally). If so we may not need a huge influx of players, just players where we really need them like CB, LB, DM & another striker i think.

Im actually hoping Dougie uses the summer to build a team that can play at a faster pace.
At times last season we included players like Danns, Marrow, Ambrose and Garvan all in the same side. There was pace in the team with players like Zaha but not enough pace all over the pitch.
I would like to see a couple of snappy wingers who can chip in with some goals and put crosses in for Murray who from what I have seen on YouTube seems great in the air.
I would also be tempted to play Ambrose upfront with Murray next season. Let the wingers use their pace, let Murray get on the end of the crosses and let Abrose drop off a little and link play while scoring those long shots in the space he finds. Happy days!
We all know Ambrose can score 20 goals a season and finding a way of getting the best out of him is very important. If Ambrose has a good season and Murray starts well then who knows where will finish.
