The Champions League Postmortem Under Way

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31842700

We have believed our own PL hype for too long.

Liverpool's excuse is that our manager is inexperienced in Europe.

Arsenal play in the comp year in and year out, but rarely get to the end stages.

Chelsea did win a few years ago, but their football wasn't admired.

Man City seem to be on a long learning curve.

Man U didn't qualify this year.

Seems that the Spanish and German giants are dominant.

The article above shows some good diagrams.

I don't think we should look at it like one country vs. another. If your team is on fire, and it is on fire in CL too, it doesn't necessarily mean that the country is doing well.

With managers like SAF and Benitez no longer involved in English Football, there is a vacuum to be filled.

Tosh.

These things come and go.

This was a 'bad year at the office', next year or the year after it'll be a 'good year at the office'

People read far too much into this.

SRP - I remember the EC in the late 70s, early 80s won by the following English teams:

77 - Liverpool
78 - Liverpool
79 - Forest
80 - Forest
81 - Liverpool
82 - Villa

Now that was domination!

2005 Liverpool win
2006 Arsenal in final
2007 Liverpool in final
2008 United and Chelsea in final
2009 United in final

Football is cyclical, the end.

The owners of City and Chelsea may not see it that way. (Who cares )

Agreed, Lpools form early on was poor and the timing was unfortunate.

On current form ... who knows.

Its the inexperienced managers that have let down English sides in Europe this year

This is a CL not EL article, Arouna . Hope Everton go all the way, anyways.

Guardiola had zero top level experience.

Heynckes was already in management when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.
