Has there ever been a more sore loser than Wenger. Arsenal go out on away goals and now wenger wants the rules changed as he says it is outdated. Now he may even have a point but its his timing, if the rule had favoured Arsenal we would not have heard anything from him. If he has said it when Chelsea went out recently I would have had more respect for his opinion, but no Arsenal went out so lets change the rules.
Idiot cannot stand the bloke.
Wenger wants rules changed

I am not a fan of Wenger by any means, but agree with him here.
Yes the timing is poor - everyone knows the rules beforehand so he should make the point at the start of the season or when winning on away goals - but the point is valid. Teams go out despite not being beaten or bettered.
The problem Wenger has is that his good point is ruined by still wanting away goals after extra time... this gives one team more of an opportunity to score an away goal so is intrinsically unfair.
I would be in favour of abandoning the away goal rule - just have it as a 2 leg tie - with extra time if needed and penalties.

Hod - agree extra time after 2 legs seems illogical, but ideally you want the game to be decided by football, rather than penalties, that's all.
I would actually be in favour of one leg games, giving the chance of real upsets - and to abandon the seeding system which guarantees top teams easier groups...

Wenger's good observations require little explanation and most people don't feel the need to sneer at them.

Anyway away goals are good they make you feel like playing at home is evil

The only rule change needed how the seedings work. Persistent elimination in the last 16 and haven't finished in the top 2 in the PL since 2005 if I recall correctly - how the hell are they still a Pot 1 seed? Shambles.

If the rules were changed Barcelona would not have gone through after 2nd leg 90 mins against Chelsea Bayern Munich Robben strike against Man utd or then win in previous round I believe to Fiorentina these games would got to ET. Anyway away teams get an advantage that they can score in ET like PSG did knocking out Chelsea.

If only capital one cup had same rules as CL Man utd would have been through to COC final against Man City last season

I like the away goals rule. Look at how Chelsea parked the bus vs Barca in 09 and showed no intent whatsoever to score or even cross the halfway line in the Nou Camp, hoping that they'd steal a 1-0 win at home and ultimately paid the price in the most glorious fashion. Served them right

Parking the bus can happen with or without the away goals rule - depending on the number of goals a team has.
The away goals rule means teams can go through without winning a match... which is crazy

Forget about the Arsenal result and look at Chelsea. Out of the last 16 without losing a game. Surely that is not right.
