clubs in the CL, and with the Financial Rules seemingly about to start hitting home, will it now be possible for teams like Chelsea and Man City just to go out and spend say a couple of hundred million to freshen up their teams, or will they have to stay strictly within limits, allowing over the next couple of years or so, the chasing pack to catch up and possibly overtake them.
The days of the big spend are over, and should not clubs be spending more time on trying to promote from within, given that they will not in the future just be able to go out and splash say £40 million on players without first balancing the books. City are already suffering it seems, but having their hands tied to a certain extent, and they know the team needs rebuilding, but they will not be able to do it as they originally did, and spend, spend, spend. Chelsea the same, they had to sell David Luiz to rebuild, and he ends up being one of the main culprits for their demise in this season`s CL. In the past they would have just kept him, and added to their squad willy nilly.
Could be good for the premiership if the long run, that the days of foreign owners just splashing the cash will no longer be able to dominate proceedings in the premiership.

Man City have already been punished under FFP a year or so ago.

It's good for those that invested in quality academies. It means they just need to buy one or two stars.
Mercenaries will soon get disinterested at other clubs. The only way for mercs to make money is through signing on fees. So they will either stay put and take their salary whilst being demotivated or they will force a move for a large signing on fee.
Looks like thats what could happen to Manchester clubs.
Chelsea and Arsenal (to a lesser extent) are lucky that London tends to keep most Mercs happy.

FFP is under legal threat so will be interesting to see if Dupont can make another name for himself as with the Bosman ruling....

Punished they were, basically a slap on the wrist, but they now know that the FFP is really starting to kick in, any more overspending could see them kicked out of any European Competitions, which basically means they have to stick with what they have, which means they will basically come back to the pack over the next year or so.

No way can I see FFP being kicked out, they will not allow a few clubs to just buy up, and more or less corner the market in what is a global sport, it was brought in for a reason, and will be here for good, and I can see the laws getting even stricter in the years to come. Even Brussels will see that to scrap FFP will eventually kill the game.

A few dubious sponsorship deals will no doubt increase the spending power of certain clubs.
£100,000,000 2 year deal to sponsor City's toilets at the training ground is in the pipeline as we speak.

Be interesting to see what happens this year with FFP.
I assume both City and PSG will meet the requirements this year as they do not want to risk more (even bigger) sanctions next year.
However nothing to stop them (PSG more than City) going out and falling foul again next year in a boom and bust sort of cycle.
Also with some of these rather suspect commercial deals it makes a mockery of FFP anyway

I am sure some of these suspect commercial deals will be getting looked into.

UEFA have already looked at all clubs deals, books are checked annually.
PSG and City received fines.
This article is a year behind the times.
