I always thought it was the other way round as the lighter boxers rely more on speed and movement which get worse with age whereas the heavier weights is more power

Well you can look at the average age of the champs in each division.

Or you the average age of the top 10 in each division, pretty sure there will be a positive correlation between weight and age.

I guess that means he thinks Pacquiao is well past his best while Mayweather has many good years ahead of him.

In the heavyweight division you get hit harder but with less frequency to the head. As such it makes sense that the lower divisions last less than heavyweight.
