results - week 24

Manchester United 1-0 Portsmouth
A tight game between two strong looking sides, neither of whom could really get full control in the game. It was high energy and strongly contested all over the field, both sides strong in midfield and dangerous down the flanks. Rooney was the man who in the end gave the United team all three points in front of their own fans, after Hazard was able to find substitute Milner in a crossing position and he found his england team mate.
Man Utd Scorer: Rooney(Milner) 76
Portsmouth Scorer: —

MOTM: Enzo Perez - 7 - Worked tirelessly in midfield to make sure Modric couldn’t get into the game to full effect.

Hull City 3-0 Aston Villa
Scorers: Aubameyang(Walcott) 16, James(Marchisio) 64, Benatia(Marchisio) 78

Swansea City 0-4 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Leicester City 0-1 Arsenal
A game in which Arsenal struggled a great deal to exert themselves on the game as their up and down performances continue. They began the game defending deep looking to counter quickly and this suited Leicester perfectly as they kept men behind the ball, keeping organised and making sure there was never any space for fast football to be played. Going forward Leicester looked good on the ball but as at the other end, Arsenal left no room for them to attack into, which really left this game in a dull stalemate. Arsenal needed another Ronaldo wonder goal to separate the two sides, firing one in from 35 yards with the keeper rooted.
Leicester Scorers: —
Arsenal Scorers: Ronaldo 74

MOTM: Ander Herrera - 7 - Played very well for Leicester, giving the Arsenal midfield no space to move into.

Birmingham City 1-2 Newcastle United
These two teams were looking out of position in the table, whilst for Newcastle their season appears to be going out with a whimper, Birmingham still have a fight on their hands to get back into the CL spaces. Both lined up in similar formations and whilst Birmingham had more control over the midfield, Newcastle caused the CB’s a few more problems and it was the movement and link up of this trio that snatched Newcastle a victory, despite Birmingham dominating for the most part.
Birmingham Scorer: Mandzukic(Srna) 34
Newcastle Scorers: Suarez(Clichy) 56, Higuain(Suarez) 82

MOTM: Luis Suarez - 8 - Undoubtedly the standout talent, a threat every time he got on the ball.

Chelsea 3-1 Southampton
Both teams had a lot of energy about them today, however Chelsea proved much stronger in key areas of the field, with the midfield trio proving stronger than Southampton’s, especially when Sanchez came infield, Ramires was often caught out positionally. Chelsea controlled possession and pressed well off the ball so that Southampton struggled to break on them, only really causing trouble when they could find Shaqiri in behind Rodriguez, but this wasn’t a regular occurrence.
Chelsea Scorers: Benzema(Sanchez) 14, Sterling(Sanchez) 32, Sanchez(Pogba) 76
Southampton Scorers: Martinez(Shaqiri) 56

MOTM: Alexis Sanchez - 8 - Allowed Alves to go head to head with the FB and take advantage of Chelsea’s midfield dominance to step infield and play between the lines, creating chance upon chance.

Everton 0-2 Manchester City
A game of relative comfort for City who continue to hold poll position for a return to Champions League football ahead of Liverpool, Birmingham and Wolves. It was their threat out wide that meant chances were created at will, and finished off by in form strikers.
Everton Scorers: —
Man City Scorers: Kane(Ribery) 7, Tevez(Robben) 67

MOTM: Arjen Robben - 8 - Showed his class as he constantly looked to attack attack attack the opposition full back.
