Spurtle has it about right.
We have an increasingly dangerous array of attacking options, but defensively we struggle. The centre halves are relatively weak, and they get no protection.
Wilshere, Carrick, Henderson, Mason. Whoever you play on the deepest midfield role is not going to do enough to stop the centre backs from being got at.
We don't deal with crosses very well either and that hurts us against the good teams who have good delivery.
I like the diamond and two up front system as it makes us better to watch, but we won't achieve with it as we lack balance.

I disagree, with the diamond, England would be most balanced. Not only that but would provide good cover for the defence and a serious threat in attack.
Hart
Clyne
Cahill
Jagielka
Baines
Carrick
Henderson, Wilshere
Sterling
Rooney
Sturridge

We might be 'most balanced' but we still don't have balance.
The defence is poor and the protection for it is not good enough.
All the best players in that team are in forward positions.

I think Carrick, Henderson and Wilshere are good protection for a defence. Cahill is a very good defender also and Jagielka not far behind him. Not much after those two but certainly the first team is strong enough if they played this system.
The current system will get England nowhere and will bore everybody to death.

Diamond is the current system and has been throughout qualifying, what are you on about?

Maybe so. Doesn't change the fact that I doubt any of you were looking forward to the football on offer this week.

I was actually. I'm one of those rare individuals who is happy to watch and support England.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could have fooled me. Every time I see you talk about England you're always whining about players, usually Liverpool ones and crying for Spurs players to be included. Don't think you give a crap about England.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry but absolutely clueless there. Not being arrogant but I'm one of the less biased posters around, and actually support English teams in Europe, with the possible exception of Chelsea.
