Derby County 2-2 Watford

Putting the thread on early for this match - it's just banter, man...

Other reasons include my intent to actually get some revision done tomorrow rather than messing around with silly match threads, and the fact that Watnallram probably has ants in his pants waiting for the posting

I've also jacked my job in because they wanted me to work Friday night, even though they let someone else have the night off to go to the match - this is sheer bias and unfairness , corruption and exploitation in is still very much alive in the workplace

By the time we kick off tomorrow we could be 8th Martin, Thorne and Hendrick are available, so there's definitely a shed load of goals on the horizon (I hope) and we can soon get back to our top-of-the-league, sure-competitors-for-automatic-promotion ways. Everything's still too unpredictable in this league, anything could yet happen!

"The Football League's like a box of chocolate boys - you never know how many points you're gonna get."
- Steve McClaren (genuine quote)

(And here's hoping Ang won't be commenting on here tomorrow - he'll be cheering along with the 'massif'! )

I'd like to sum up with a Pink Floyd quote that I believe we can all relate to:

"Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times"

Hendrick looked so assured at right back only because we were playing against 10 men and he had acres of space to run into.

A bit rich to say none of the defenders was fit to wear the shirt. The much maligned Keogh had a good game I thought. Shotton put his head on the line in a 50/50 challenge and had the bandage to prove it. The majority of our attacking play first half came from Forsyth down the left flank.

Christie, it gives me no pleasure to say, has been the weak link. The obvious mistakes which then also had the knock on effect of demolishing his confidence going forward too. The contrast with Wisdom last season is stark, I'm afraid.

These "clowns" have conceded less than Watford,Brentford,Wolves,Forest & Blackburn. 1 more than Ipswich and 2 more than Norwich.

Our defence may have conceded only a few goals but you can't say it's an assured defence. As a supporter I fret every time a cross comes in or a corner is conceded. It's bodies on the line or desperate blocks that has kept the goals against column down. I would like to see our defence read the game better than they do.

Iwas not sure about the corner worry. We conceded against Birmingham but that was mad...not sure we concede regularly from corners. Our problem for me lies in that our defenders are told to play from the back. Last 2 games Forsyth has tried to play the ball into a team mate from probably same position deep inside our half. Tried to play into feet to Ince at Wolves and on Friday tried to hit Bent. Punished both times. Forsyth and Christie are a bag of nerves and should be pulled out tmoro

We concede very few from corners or set-pieces generally. We get caught out when passes are intercepted and the opposition gets to run at us when we are not set up to defend, often when the midfield are ahead of the ball. We don't remember the times when the pass reaches its target, only when it leads to a goal against. It is very easy to lump the ball long and so avoid all risk, but this is not the way we play, nor should it be. Forsyth has been a victim to some extent of the way McClaren wants the team to play and I think he has been unlucky in that when passes have gone awry it has often ended up in a goal which naturally makes the error look a lot worse - Hughes gave away the ball on Friday in a very dangerous position but we don't really mention it because by chance a goal didn't happen to be the outcome.

I think Forsyth is too predictable though in favouring that particular pass more than any other option which means an alert opponent can nip in and nick the ball. Sometimes the long ball down the line into the channel is a decent enough option and often gets a throw-in further up the field, as well as being risk-free. I don't think Forsyth's confidence is gone but I would still go with Warnock and Christie badly needs a rest.

Leeds fans say that Warnock makes great last ditch tackles because he gives the ball away. Not the player for our type of game.
