Jackie Mac.

From what I read in the papers and Jackie's own comments it would appear that the United fans anger is because he receives a share of any transfer fee.

I'd suggest that the fans are less unhappy about that and more unhappy because we have a manager who with nearly 3/4 of the season gone doesn't a clue what is best team is.

And how to get the best out of what he has.

We have five players Rado, MacGowan, Fojut, Dixon and Ciftci who will start every game but as for the rest it looks like their names are picked out of a hat.

And for me that lack of continuity in team selection is the root of the problem.

Much as been said about GMS and Armstrong leaving but we haven't player well often enough from the start of the season.

Can Jackie get the fans back on his side again ? Who knows.
But if we lose to Dundee then it would be very difficult.

I'm sure he would rather have held on to GMS and Armstrong and possibly won the league cup which would look better on his CV.

Why? He gets a large chunk of the fee

This is the first I've ever heard of such a contract.

Was it part of Dundee Utd's incentives to lure Jackie Mac? Maybe they seen his ability to bring on a young player and seen this as a great thing for Utd.

As much as I think Jackie Mac has become bitter as well as tactically clueless you can only sign the contract you are offered.

The club statement stated he waived his right to privacy on his contract, today he is greeting about it's

Apparently these kind of contracts are very common place in English football but extremely unusual in Scotland, I think the whole stinks and could create all sorts of problems if they were to become common here.
In effect the manager is saying , yea ok I'll player younger players but you have to pay me for it, conflict of interest springs to mind

We don't know what percentage he gets but if it was part of the bonus deal he accepted with a lower basic than his predecessor Houston then I don't have a great problem with it.
As Hector says it's a pity that it became public. Especially when there are clearly other issues going on at Tannadice off the pitch.

One of Houston's parting shots at United was to criticise the upcoming youth players, so I suppose the contract was there as an incentive to develop them.

I'm completely fine with the contract as there don't appear to have been any negative consequences. McNamara's not been over-utilising youth players or trying to protect them too much. Souttar was convinced to stay when that'd have been another payday for McNamara.

What I'm not completely fine with is the regression in ability of McNamara as a manager. He's going through a similar, albeit slower, transition to Houston. No longer are we seeing good substitutions from McNamara, but instead waiting until the 70th minute or until we fall behind. The team selection is increasingly negative & defensive, and the players aren't working well together. It also seems to fall apart mid-season with him, suggesting there's either a fitness or motivation issue. Everybody starts the season positively but slowly that gets eroded and we end the season limping over the line, begging for it to end.

The fans groups held several meetings with thompson et Al and got no where, they reluctantly released a statement, they had every opportunity to clear it up.
The stories about the coaching team heading into St andrews most nights getting blitzed and coming into training half cut must be a worry, Darren Jackson being named as the worst culprit

Laudrup, I agree that there are issues that the board have failed to address to the satisfaction of the supporters group.
If the stories that you've mentioned are true then we're in a worse position than I thought.
I think the manager is entitled to some privacy regarding his contract but the genie's out the bottle now and unlikely to have a happy ending.
The worry for United fans is who to believe.
I know Thompson isn't a favorite of the Ranger's support but he has done a good job with United in reducing the debt.
And up to now we've had no reason to doubt him.

It depends on if the debt is actually reduced to the level he claims ,there is also doubt about that

I think it's a bit of a shitstorm of a number of factors rather than being all about one issue, which is what is being portrayed.

In some ways I was starting to feel reassured yesterday that we were at least trying to play football again, especially in the first half (although we were absolutely dire in the second half).

However, the problems have stemmed from a number of factors and for me the biggest problem is we have a chairman who clearly wants out and is trying to maximise his profit from his inevitable sale. I was entirely on board with clearing the debt, but not when it was to the detriment of the football side of things. I can accept selling a player every year, I struggle to accept selling four players in one season.

There are and always have been loads of issues with the manager, and my biggest concern this year has been the fact we haven't actually brought through any of our own youngsters.

One final wee point - Biscuits was on the radio yesterday saying that most of that £500k probably went to the players. I think he's right. The Jackie taking a cut thing has been over hyped. I don't really care that much about it.
