Winning inspite of Mourinho?

Hello all,

Hope you all had a fantastic easter, I spent most of mine in bed with a banging hangover

Just a quick point, obviously I went on saturday and was so dissapointed in mourinhos decisions.

A.) to bring on costa who was(even with the bad luck of him going down straight away) surely must not of been ready and
B.) taking remy off for cuadrado(which was going to happen BEFORE remy scored, so lucky that the ball never went out of play.
C.) taking him off regardless of him scoring, and having cuadrado take away our momentum whenever he got the ball

This was just in one game but all season he has been making funny mistakes including city and utd sitting back on a lead, bringing on mikel and just the change in the team mentality that this accompanies(not blaming mikel), bringing on drogba over remy for god knows why and he always has a knack of subbing the better of the front three that day(oscar, willian or hazard).

Now I love mourinho and last year believe we would have never challenged for the title without him, he done some wonderful tactical masterclasses.

But for me he has made some strange decisions this year which could of cost us this weekend, has cost us against PSG, city and utd and a few other games this year.

anyone a bit worried?

P.S - Remys confidence must of taken a battering this weekend and year, he worked hard yesterday, had great link up play and had a good game, scores and then gets dragged off. Not good.

vry manager makes mistakes, and Mourinho makes less than the vast majority, but having said that he does seem to have grown a bit of a fear of failure in the past few years. I reckon his famous comments about Wenger last season had a hint of projection about them.

kneerash, if you have a look at my original post I said that mourinho was the only reason we challenged last year. This year though I believe there have been a fair few mistakes. Still would not swap him for anyone though.

He has definitely made mistakes this season just like he does every year or just like every manager does. Mistakes are to be expected from managers and players. But we're challenging for the title at long last which is what I've been wanting since Carlo's 1st season.

Poor you, four whole seasons. Must have endured a real hell.

Oh well, at least in that time you won a Champions League, a Europa League and an FA Cup title to help soften the blow.

So some decision Jose has made that you think is wrong must mean that we are winning "inspite" of Mourinho. We're still on track to get 90+ points, his "silly" mistakes you speak of are very subjective and ones I do not agree with much at all. The one thing I think he can improve on next season (apart from improving the squad that is) is rotating the squad more earlier in the season - as I think that (fatigue) is what cost us against PSG. But then again, that non-rotation allowed for a great amount of consistent quality performances earlier on in the season, which has put us in such a commanding position in the league.....so hard to say, I just think we need to improve the squad a bit.

Regarding bringing on Mikel/going defensive. People like to go quiet when it does work, and then show their brilliant short term memories when it may have been the reason for conceding a late goal. We have been seeing out many games this season going defensive, and have succeeded on a significant amount of those, the one or two we didn't, is just the error you get when playing the numbers game with this sort of tactic - in the end we gain a lot more than we lose. Also if I remember right, we were actually on top of City after we scored, should have scored again, and that's after Mikel came on. City then pushed us hard late on, and we couldn't deal with it.

Regarding Remy - well you know my thoughts on him. He is playing the exact role I said he will at the start of the season, ie as a shared back-up role with a 37 year old Drogba. Not as a straight 2nd choice like most thought. He is a quality player, but he is a quality instinctive striker that likes running at defences. imo if Drogba is not going through a dog poo like form right now or if he was a couple of years younger, Remy would be 3rd choice. I respect Remy but I'm certain he will move in the summer, as in the long run, having a striker with great hold up play that can inter-play with attacking midfielders and create chances is more important to Mourinho's way of play. I believe Remy creates 0.5 chances per 90mins, whereas Drogba and Costa create 1.9 and 1.8 chances per 90 min respectively - from the last time I checked, stats are on Squawqa website. I rarely see him proactively holding the ball up for a few seconds and the creating attacking play with it in the same way Drogba or Costa do. At best it's given to his feet and he passes it along 2 yards in front of him or to the side. Not his fault, he certainly isn't that sort of striker, he would definitely be a major asset at a club like Liverpool or Spurs.
