There has always been an English player premium, both on transfers and wages, we are now on the eve of further financial boom for home grown talent as the FA introduce home grown quotas for squads further than the current setup.
This article is not about the rights or wrongs of this new system, but about the consequences to the Premiership clubs.
The new rule would be that only 13 non-home grown players to a squad. 2 players would need to be club trained, and home grown will mean that they must have been trained from 15. So no players like Fabregas, Clichy and Szczesny wouldn't be counted going forward.
This is going to put a few strains on clubs, but as usual the pain will trickle down.
Manchester City barely make their current quota and would need to buy 6 home grown players, Chelsea 4, Arsenal too would need to buy more home grown, unless they promote from within.
But for now I shall focus on Man City, they have the oldest squad in the league, have had a difficult year, and are looking to rebuild.
One thing that Man City can offer any player is big wages, so if they need home grown players, guess what they will be offering them?!
The premium is about to go up, and it means that those who offer the biggest wages will steal from those that cannot.
According to most reports, City are targeting Henderson, Wilshere and Stirling, it will be an interesting test to see what happens next. Walcott is currently starting contract negotiations with Arsenal as well and is no doubt going to be a long drawn out process.
Fact is that they can demand what they want now, and the clubs can either look to cash in through transfers, or pay over the odds to keep them.

That's a fair point. I'm sure we'd all love our youth products to stick with our club - but there are very few 1 club men left & unless you pay them what they want, they, unfortunately, have the power.

You were moaning.
And you are doing what you usually do when people disagree with you, making it personal and getting the hump instead of just debating the point.

Sorry Term that's a nonsense argument.

That's really 'debating the point'
And again, you're getting the terms of 'moaning' and 'frustration' mixed up. Big difference in the two. You actually do far less 'debating the point' than you probably think. The usual way it pans out is that someone posts their opinion, then you tell them they're wrong and try to make them appear inferior to yourself by typing in that condescending manner you're so good at.
That's not debating the point

There isn't really a big difference.
When you get frustrated, you moan.
And say things like 'the likes of City' and 'let others do the hard work and reap the rewards'.
When we signed Lallana did you apologise to Southampton fans for 'the likes of us' 'unsettling and poaching' their star players and 'letting them do all the hard work and reaping the rewards'.

If sterling's agent tells him that City will pay £160k a week, why would he stay at Liverpool? where realistically his chances of winning trophies is less, and he's not a scouser. He is a definite starter, that's what Liverpool can offer, it might not be enough of a pull to keep your best players. I wonder what sort of wages Liverpool can afford, I'd say they can offer £150k a week for a handful of players

It won't be long before Term starts hurling abuse and name calling. He's a right moody so-and-so,he can't keep control of his emotions.

Right OK, I apologise. As usual you're right, and you know exactly what I'm thinking, even more than I do. I'm even more sorry for having a different opinion to the Great Righteous, who is the ultimate authority on everything.
